Notes for John Williams and Miriam Smith

1668 On June 9 "at atoun meting by a mayor vot was given unto Thomas southard the parsonage hous bevle lying on the west sid of the east oxpastar Aioyuing to the rere of John williams his homloot." [1]

c 1669 Miriam Smith and John Williams were married. [2]

1671 "At the a foregoing Towne Meeting held the said 25th day of Aprill 1671, there was Let out to Hire for this ensuing yeare" ... "To Timothy Halstead, all the Common Meadow from the spring on the westside of John Williams his Lott, to Mr Jacksons Eight Acre Lott" [3]

1672 "At A townd Cort Held at Hempsted by the Cunstable and overseers this 21 of October in the yeare of our Lord 1672" ... "A Record off John Smiths Juner Roc his hundred acore
off woodland lying and being sittuatt att or about the head of howes bay hollow Eastward buted and bounded as ffolloeth by his ffather Smith on y'e westt side in bradth six core pearch North westerly or Easterly hallf a poynt bound on y'e East by Nathaniell Pearsall adJoyuing to a two and twenty acor lott of John williams on the Southern partt". 1674 A lot that belonged to John Williams was mentioned in a deed: "I widdow Lattin of Hampsted on Long Island in the North Ryding of New Yorksheir have and do by these presents with the Concent of my Son Thomas Ireland Sold and Allinated from mee my Heires Executors administrators an assignes to Joseph Williams of the Same Towne him his Heires. Executors administrators or assignes a Certain lott of Meadow Containing the quantety of nine Ackers more or Less as it wass laid out lyiug and being at Rockaway on an Island Called Hungry harbour Island, it being bounded on the west side by A lott that was Mr John Hixis, and on the east by A lott yt wass John Williamses an on the north by a great Crick and on the South by a crick that makes that Island I the Said widdow Lattin do binde an Engaige my self to maintaine and uphold the sale of the said Lott of meadow to the Said Joseph Williams." 1678 "At a Jenerall townd Meting held in Hempsted the 25 day of desember in the yere of our Lord 1678" "it was agred on by the majer Vote that the layers out of the medow shall begin to lay first at the Esturmost Comon Medow on the south sid of Rocoway lots drane for the Medow at Eocoaway" [list of names] John Williams 38. [6] [7]

1679 On 16 January, land of John Williams was adjacent to land of John Smith Nan. [8]

1679 "At a Jenerall townd Meting held in Hempsted the 25 day of Aperell in the yere of our Lord 1679" ... "The Record of Nathaniell, Pearsalls hundred aker lot of Land it lys on the west sid of that Range of two and twenty aker lots that is to y'e Norwest of hericks" where Robert Marvin hath a lot : it is bounded on the est sid by the hyway that is betwen that and the two and twenty aker lots and on the west sid it is bounded by John smiths and John williamsis land" [9]

1680 On 22 September, land of John Williams was adjacent to land, called "ffoster's Meadow", granted by deed of gift from Jeremia Wood senior to William Smith. [10]

1680 On 1 April, "Att a Towne meetting Aprill 1 : 1680 there was chosen by magor Voatt for Cunstable George Hulitt. Att the Same Towne meeting there was Chosen ffor Overseers John Williams and John Smith Juner." [11]

1682 "At acort of constable and overseers held in Hemsted the 2 of aogus in the yere 1682, Elias durland plaintive Enters an action against the Estate of John marshall" ... "The testimony of miriam durland consarning a dept [debt] that was due to her first husban John williams from John marhall that she the sd Miriam testifieth that she heard her busband John williams say that he and John marshall had reckoned and ther was due from John marshall the sum of twenty eyght shilens. tacken upon oth before the Constable and oversers of Hemsted Agust the . 2d . 1682" [12]

1683 On 11 October, Ellias Durland [Dorelant] was named on a rates list for Hempstead with 0 heads, 22 [acres or morgens?] land and meadows, 4 oxen, 8 cows, 2 hogs, 20 sheep, and 2 horses. [13]

1736 Miriam Smith's son, Elias Durland was named in the will of grandson Samuel Mott: "In the name of God, Amen, December 21, 1736. I, Samuel Mott, of Hempstead, in Queen's County, being very sick. I leave to my wife Martha £100, and use of my house and barn, which I bought of Richard Carman, and all my land adjoining, bounded west by Jacob Smith, north by John Smith and the land of Serious (Searings), east by highway that leads from the plains to Cow Neck and land of Richard and Thomas Willis, and south as far as my land extends; Also the use of 30 acres of woodland below Searings, joining to my brothe'r Joseph Mott, And my meadow near Rockaway. She is to have the use of said lands "for the bringing up of my children, which I would have Avell done, Avith learning suitable for them." If my wife should marry, the executors are to sell the land, and use the proceeds for the same purpose. I leave to my wife and children all personal property, stock and slaves (names of children not given). I make my wife Martha, and my brother, Joseph Mott, and my uncle, Elias Dorlan, and my brother, Samuel Cornell and Jacob Smith, executors. Witnesses, Thomas Williams, Benjamin Seaman, Martha Seaman. Proved, March 26, 1737." [14]
