1536 Anne Hampton was given a legacy in the will of her aunt Anne (Payne) (Tourney) Stone, written on 7 April. [1]

Item I bequeath to my cosyn Anne Hampton my goddaughter a fetherbed wt a bolster and a pair of fustyan blanketts Item to her two paire of shets one paire of fyne canvas thother paire of course canvas Item to her a coverlett grene with branchis Item to her a pyllowe of dowle and a pyllowe bere Item more to her my seconde best gowne that is furryd wt Shanks Item to her a kirtell of blak worsted and xl s in money.

1544-1551 Plaintiffs Thomas Page and Agnes his wife sued defendants William Howell of Weedon, yeoman, and Maude his wife concerning the legacy of William Duncon of Weedon, in Buckinghamshire, yeoman, father of the said Agnes, former husband of the said Maude. [2]

1557 William Howell wrote his will on November 30. [7]

In dei nomine amen. The last daye of Novembr' in the yere of our lorde god a thousannde vC lvijti. I Will'm Howell of Wedon in the parishe of Waygate gent. make this my present testament and last will in manner and fourme following. First I bequeath my soule to allmighti god to our ladye Saint Mary and to all the hollye company of heaven, and my bodie to be buried in the parrishe church of Wingrove in the Channcell before the hie aulter there. Item I give to the said hie aulter vjs. viijd. I giue towards to ornamentis of the said church vjs viijd and to the mayntenance of the belles there xiijs iiijd. To the pore people there vjs viijd. Item I geve to the mother churche of Lincoln iiij d. Item I giue to the mayntenance of the belles of Hardewike church xiijs iiijd. To the poore people there vjs viijd. To the poore people of Ailesburye xxs. To the poore people of Whichurche vjs xiijd. To the poore of Marche vjs viijd. Item I will that Anne my wife have all my lands and tentis in Watton and Hamme during her lif. And after her deceace to remayn to Henry my sonne and to theirs of his bodie lawfully begotten. And for lacke of suche yssue to remayn to thissue male of the bodie of me and my said wif and to theirs of his bodie lawfullie begotten. And for lacke of suche yssue to remayn to the right heires of me. I geve will and bequeath to John Howell my eldest sonne and to theirs of his bodie lawfully begotten all my lands and tentis in the parrishe of Marche. And for defaulte of suche yssue to remayn to Henry Howell my said sonne and the theirs of his bodie Laufully begotten and for defaulte of suche yssue to remayn to Jacob my sonne in fourme aforesaid. And for defaulte of suche yssue to remayne to the right heires of me the said Willm Howell. I geve to Henry my sonne xx li and to Jacob my sonne xx li in money and money worth. I geve to Isabell Jane Cicill Agnes Anne Joane and Alice my daughters euerye of them xx li to be paid to euerye of them at the daye of their marriage. And if any of them deceace afore marriage Thenne the Legacies to remayne equally to thoverlivers of them. Item I will that Anne my saide wif shalhaue all my lands and tentis in the parishe of Marche for the space of vj yeres next following for to bring vp my children And also I will that she shalhaue half my ferme at Weden during her widowhood. Item I wille that Agnes Page of Wotton shalhave vj li xiijs iijd and v ewes and v lambes. Item I geve to Alice Slater xls and v ewes and v lambes. Item I geve to euerye godchild that I have xijd. Item I will that for the space of vj yeres there shalbe bestowed yerelie xxd in breade and drincke to the poore people att Wyngrove, and also somuche to the poore people at Harwicke and Wedon at the discreacion of the parsonne of Hardwike and the Vicare of Wyngrove. Item I geve to the Vicar of Wyngrove to pray for me vs. I geve to John Rowe xijd. The Residue of my goods and Cattalles my dettes paid my will perfourmed and funerall charges doon. I Geve to Anne my wife and John Howell my sonne whome I make myne executours Trusting that my said Wif wilbe good to my children and to bring them well vp. And I make my overseers Mr Wardeyn of the new Colledge of Oxford and John Eyr to whom I geve euery of them xls. And if Mr Wardeyn faile or will not.Thenne Mr Parsonne of Hardwike to take his tourne. Witnes heroff John Blosse Sr William Newerke vicar of Wingrove John Row and others.

1558 "The same yeare the xijth of Septemb. was buryed Mr Wm Howell" at Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England. [8] [9]

1558 The will of William Howell was proved on October 2 with administration granted to his widow Anne and his son John Howell. "Probatum fuit suprascriptum testm … apud London xxmo die mensis Octobris Anno dni Mill'mo quingentesimo quinquagesimo octavo Jur' Anne Relicte et Johannis Howell Executors …" [10]
