Notes for Robert Field and Mary Taylor

1694 Robert Field, the eldest son of Benjamin Field, may have been born in Burlington. Orphaned at a young age, he worked as a cooper in Bucks County for a time.

1700 On 31 March, Mary Taylor, daughter of Samuel and Susannah Taylor was born. [1]

1701 Benjamin Field of Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County, sold 469 acres to Thomas Stevenson Senior of Newtown, Queens County, New York. [2]

1716 On May 8, when barely of age, Robert Field conveyed to Thomas Stevenson of Bucks, yeoman, land bequeathed to him in the will of his father, Benjamin Field. [3]

1721 On 18 December, Robert Field, cooper of Burlington County, purchased land; adjacent to lands of William Black, Anthony Woodward, and Robert Murfin; from Nathan Allen. [4]

1722 On 5 April, Robert Field and Mary Taylor, daughter of Samuel and Susanna, made their second declaration of intention to marry, as recorded in the Chesterfield, Burlington County, monthly meeting minutes. [5]

1722 On day 12, month 2 (April), Robert Field (son of Benjamin Field and Experience Allen) married Mary Taylor, daughter of Samuel and Susanna (Horseman) Taylor at Chesterfield Meeting, Burlington County, New Jersey. Witnessed by Samuel Taylor, Benjamin Field, Samuel Taylor Jr, Jacob Large, John Taylor, Susanna Fforman, Ambrose Field, Peter ffeason, John Ccholey, Frances Scholey, John Black, Robert Taylor, Wm Taylor, Jos Marriott, Joseph Borden, Abigail Doughty, Susanna Taylor, Elizabeth Ogbourn, Mercy Kinge, Susanna Field, Elizabeth Stevenson, Damarus Townsenth, Elizabeth Burtis, Anne Borden, Samuel Bunting, John Chester, John Tantum, Isaac Horner, William Shatterthwite, William Thorne, Benjamin Doughty, Thomas Newbold, Samuel Farnsworth, John Albertis, John Richard Jr, John Moore. 1723 Mary Field, daughter of Samuel Taylor, was named in his will made in Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County. [10]

1730 On 2 month, 15 day, Susannah Schooley, daughter of John Schooley [and Mary's sister Frances Taylor] of Burlington, married Michael Newbold at Springfield Twp, Burlington County. Witnessed by Mary Field and others. [11].

1735-54 Mary apparently died during this time, since she was not mentioned in the will, and there were young children.

1745 On 15 April, Robert Field, perhaps this one, was a freeholder in Mansfield Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. [12]

1754-58 The will of Robert Field of Mansfield Township, Burlington County, is dated 1 February 1754, probated 12 August 1758. It named son Robert; son Samuel, under age; daughter Mary Yardley; daughter Sarah, under age; grandson Robert Lawrence, not yet 11, son of deceased daughter Susanna by William Lawrence; executors son Robert, William Pancoast of Bordin Town, and William Black of Chesterfield. A codicil dated 26 January 1757 deducts £100 of Jamaica currency from Samuel's share, paid to him by his brother Robert at Jamaica. Administration was granted to Thomas Yardley of Bucks County 12 August 1758. Farm at Whitekill on the N. E. side of the road from the Landing to Curtis' Mill; meadow on "Croseweeks" Creek in Nottingham Township; a lot between Front, Ferry and Second Streets in (?); another lot between Front and Ferry Streets and the lot sold to Preserve Brown another lot between Front, Lawrell and Second streets; a house and lot at the head of the hollow, "As Clodworth Read now lives in." Personal estate, incl. a negro girl. Witnesses--Thomas Watson, Mary Swain, Jacob Swain. Witnesses--Richard Potts, Rebecca Potts, Ann Boyd. Proved Aug. 12, 1758. [13]

1758, Aug. 12. Bond of Thomas Yardley of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, as Adm'r, with will annexed; John Imlay and Joseph Borden, Jr., Esqs., both of Burlington County, fellowbondsmen.

Grandson Robert Field, married Abigail, daughter of Richard and Annis (Boudinot) Stockton, whose father was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Granddaughter Maria married Richard Stockton, son of the Signer, and father of Hon. Commodore Robert Field Stockton, of the United States navy and senate. [14]
