Notes for Edward Sulyard and Anne Norreys

1516 Edward Sulyard's will was dated March 2 [1515/16, but the PCC copy states the year as 1516] and proved June 6. [1] The will is written in Latin except for the two mentions of bequests to Edward's wife Anne, which are written in English. Edward bequeathed to his daughters Brigitte, Mirabelle, Grisilde, and Fortune at their marriages, and mentioned approval(?) by her brother William of the marriage of Brigette. As William was Edward's eldest son by his first marriage, perhaps this statement implies that Mirabelle, Grisilde, and Fortune were daughters by Edward's second wife Anne. He bequeathed to Anne "lands called Genalles bury to have and to holde to her and her heires begotten of her body and myne" and named his wife Anne as executrix with "Bryan Appylby person of Sutton in Essex."
