Several land transactions involving Abraham Brown, below, mention Mansfield, Burlington County and Shrewsbury, Manalapan, and Freehold in Monmouth County. The boundary between Monmouth County and Burlington County was moved, apparently, because the county for Freehold Twp was changed from Monmouth to Burlington. Manalapan and Freehold are about 10 kilometers apart. One explanation, shown here, is that Abraham Brown Sr of Shrewsbury, Monmouth County sold land near Manalapan and Freehold, Monmouth County to Abraham Brown Jr of Mansfield, Burlington County. Research Notes:

The 1695 and 1699 entries indicate a daughter Mary married Samuel Thorp, not named in the will.

1702 A Mary Wooley was named in the will of her father Thomas Potter. Mary was a sister to the Ephraim Potter. Ephraim Potter married Sarah, daughter of this Abraham Brown. Some [138] [139] have suggested that Mary Potter, daughter of Thomas, was the spouse of this Abraham Brown; in other words father and daughter Brown married sister and brother Potter. However, if this were true, then Thomas Potter would have named his daughter as Mary Brown, not as Mary Wooley, since Abraham Brown and Mary were married at the time the will was written, according to deeds cited above. We seek futher evidence to identify Abraham Brown's spouse or spouses. We know only of the deeds naming his wife as Mary, cited above, and know of no evidence that he had more than one spouse. Perhaps Mary Wooley, daughter of Thomas Potter, was related to William Wooley, named in a deed dated 1729:

1729 Mary Brown (previously Mary Chambers and prior widow of Nicholas Brown) and William Exceen (perhaps also Mary Brown, daughter of Nicholas Brown and Mary Chambers-Brown) granted land to William Woolley. The land was on the North side of the Shark River, Shrewsbury, Monmouth County. Dated 24 Jan 1729. Citing G-2 (EJ): Folio 188 (SSTSE023). [140]
