1838 Samuel Gray, son of Justus and Barbara Gray, was born on May 19. He was baptized on February 6, 1839. [2]

1841 Justus Gray advertised the sale of land [3]:

On Friday 19th of September, 1841, will be exposed to sale by way of public vendue, at the public house of Charles Bauman, in Ephrata township, in the county of Lancaster, a certain Plantation or tract of Land, situate in said township, about 1 mile South East of Ephrata, adjoining lands of Christian Wolf, Henry Gray, Christian Brubaker, Charles Bauman and others, containing 102 Acres … please call on Henry Gray, residing within sight of the premises. … Justus Gray

1850 Justus Grey (age 43, born in Pennsylvania) lived in West Hempfield, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Barbara Grey (age 39), Albert Grey (age 16), Elizabeth Grey (age 14), Samuel Grey (age 12), and Mary Grey (age 9). [4]

1854 Justus Gray and Son, of West Hempfield, advertised the sale of hauling equipment, two miles east of Columbia. [5]

Public Sale … on the premises of Justus Gray, in West Hempfield township, Lancaster County, on the road leading from Columbia to Chestnut Hill iron Ore Mines, two miles east of Columbia, eight miles west of Lancaster, and half a mile west of Cordillia Furnace … Horses … Harness and wagon ready for hauling … Mules … contract for hauling 1000 Tons of ore … New broad-wheeled wagon … harnesses … chains …

1860 Justus Gray (age 56, born in Pennsylvania) lived in West Hempfield, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Barbara Gray (age 51), Samuel Gray (age 22), Alice Gray (age 8), Amos Tshendy (age 27), Jonas Beacher (age 24), and Mary Eisenberger (age 28). Justus Gray's occupation was farmer. [6]

1864 Justus Gray was on the Board of Directors for the First National Bank of Columbia. [7]

1867 A sale of land of Jacob Snavely described the land as adjacent to Justus Gray and Daniel Yinger in West Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County. [8]

1870 Justice Gray (age 63, born in Pennsylvania) lived in West Hempfield, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Barbara R Gray (age 61), and Margaret Daum (age 33). Justice Gray's occupation was farmer. Justice's parents were not of foreign birth. [9]

1880 Justus Gray (age 72, born in Pennsylvania, married) lived in West Hempfield, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Barbara R. Gray (age 71). Justus Gray's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Justus Gray's occupation was farmer. [10]

1884 A newspaper notice in the Chester Times reported [11]:

Justus Gray, son of Colonel Gray, manufacturer of the Schomacker pianos, of Philadelphia, was in Chester yesterday on a visit to John P. Dougherty of 22 West Third Street.

1887 Justus Gray died on March 8, 1887 and was buried at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Justus Gray was born on July 26, 1807. [12]

1896 R. Barbara Gray, wife of Justus Gray, died on July 30, 1896 and was buried at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. R. Barbara Getz Gray was born on March 16, 1809. [13]

1900 Samuel G Gray (born in Pennsylvania in May 1839, married for 15 years) lived in East Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Lila B Gray (age 42), Harry W Gray (age 13), Walter E Gray (age 10), and Justus T Gray (age 3). 1914 Samuel G Gray, of Landisville, was a member of the Lancaster City and County, Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania. [24]

1914 Dr Samuel G Gray, son of Justus Gray and Barbara Getz, died on May 2, at age 75, in East Hempfield, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Dr Samuel G Gray was born on May 19, 1838, in Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [25]

1914 A biosketch was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. [26]:

Samuel G. Gray, M.D. University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 1863; a member of the Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania; and once vice-president of the Lancaster County Medical Society; assistant surgeon of the Twenty Ninth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and surgeon of the Twentieth Pennsylvania Cavalry during the Civil War; from 1875 to 1878, a surgeon on Atlantic liners; died at his home in Landisville, May 2, from heart disease, aged 76.

1918 Walter Elmer Gray, age 29, and Ida Cardelia Eshbach were married on June 22. Walter Elmer Gray was a son of Samuel D Gray and Lile Speece. (FHL film 000021191). [27]

1932 Elizabeth G Parry, daughter of Justus Gray and Barbara Getz, spouse of Harry B Parry, died on June 28, 1932, at age 96, in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth G Parry was born on December 5, 1835, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [28]

A biosketch named daughter Elizabeth [29]:

Henry B. Parry, born October 10, 1834; married, at Columbia, Pa., September 16, 1858, Elizabeth C. Gray. They had no children.

Notes about son Albert. There are confusing reports about his death. Perhaps there were two different men named Albert Gray who were buried in the Lancaster Cemetery who died elsewhere in 1877:

1860 Albert Gray (age 26, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Delaware Twp, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Sarah A Gray (age 25), Adda M Gray (age 3), Elizabeth Gray (age 1), and John Terman (age 14). Albert Gray's occupation was farmer. [30]

1870 Albert Gray (age 37, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Williamsport Ward 1, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Charles G Gray (age 8), Irvin T Gray (age 6), Franklin Gray (age 6/12), John Harner (age 52), Sarah A Gray (age 36), and Lizzie C Gray (age 11). Albert Gray's occupation was tailor. [31] [32]

1877 Albert Gray died on November 21 at age 45y 2m 4d and was buried at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Albert Gray was born 1n 1832. [33]

On the 26th day of February, 1877. My dear father (Albert Gray) started for Texas. Albert Gray died in Texas on the 21st day of November 1877, aged 45 years, 2 months and 4 days. Albert Gray’s funeral sermon was preached in Wmdtown church by Mr. Turner, on the evening of December 9, 1877 the 4th chapter of Amos, the 12th verse Hymns sung 335, 339.

1877 A notice in the Intelligencer Journal, Lancaster, Pennsylvania Newspaper reported the following on January 11.


Intelligencer Journal, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, January 11, 1877. [34]

… Albert Gray, son of Justus Gray, residing near Columbia, this county, had died suddenly in St. Louis, on Friday last. … the remains had been shipped to this city … and were taken to the chapel in Lancaster Cemetery. Yesterday the funeral service took place … The St. Louis Globe-Democrat of Saturday contains the following particulars of Mr. Gray's death:

Another Suicide - A Drug Clerk Ushered into Eternity by means of Prussic Acid … The deceased was about thirty five years of age, unmarried, and had relatives in Pennsylvania. He had been in the city for some six years, … but was penniless. The following note was found in the pocket book of the deceased: " … A telegraph dispatch to my brother-in-law, Dr. H.B. Parry, Lancaster City, Pennsylvania, would be answered immediately … " Albert Gray, August 21, 1876.

Deceased was a brother of Col. Harry Gray, of Philadelphia …

1880 Sarah Gray (age 43, born in Pennsylvania, widowed) lived in Williamstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Lizzie Gray (age 21), Charles Gray (age 18), Irwin Gray (age 15), and Frank Gray (age 11). Sarah Gray's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. [35]

1925 Lizzie C Throne, daughter of Albert J Gray and Sarah Trego, died on January 29, 1925, at age 65, in York, York County, Pennsylvania. Lizzie C Throne was born on March 23, 1859, in Pennsylvania. [36]
