Notes for Charles Watkins and Dinah Bulgin

1891 Charles Watkins and Dinah Bulgin were married on November 3 in Manhattan, New York County, New York. [1] The abstract of the record states that Charles' parents were Hugh Watkins and Mary Hawkins, that Dinah's parents were Samuel Bulgin and Sarah Austey [sic, perhaps Anstey], and that Charles (age 26) and Dinah (age 25) were both born in Twillingate, Newfoundland. [2]

1892 Olive Watkins, daughter of Charles and Dinah Watkins, was born in October.

1893 "D. Watkins" (age 30) and "O. Watkins" (age 1) sailed from St. Johns, Newfoundland, on the ship Portia, via Halifax, Nova Scotia, and arrived in New York on September 8. They were from Newfoundland and their intended destination was New York. [3]

1895 [Clifton Bulgin] Watkins, son of Charles Watkins and Dinah Bulgin, was born on August 7 in Manhattan, New York County, New York. The abstract of the record states that Charles was age 30 and Dinah was age 31 and both were born in Newfoundland. [4]

1900 On June 9, Charles Watkins (age 36, born in December 1863) and his wife Dinah Watkins (age 36, born in November 1863) lived on West 134th Street in Manhattan, New York County, New York, with their children Oliva Watkins (age 7, born in October 1892) and Clifton Watkins (age 4, born in August 1895). Charles and Dinah and their parents were born in Newfoundland, Canada. The children were born in New York. Charles immigrated in 1889 and Dinah in 1890. Charles was a carpenter. Charles and Dinah had been married 8 years. Dinah had had 2 children, and both were living. [5]

1904 [William] Watkins, son of Charles Watkins and Dinah Bulgin Watkins, was born on February 23 in Manhattan, New York County, New York. The abstract of the record states that Charles was age 39 and Dinah was age 38 and both were born in Newfoundland. [6]

1905 On June 1, Charles (age 40) and Dinah (age 40) Watkins lived on Lenox Avenue in Manhattan, New York, with their children Olive (age 12), Clifton (age 10), and William (age 1). Charles was a carpenter. The census states that all were born in the United States. [7] [8]

1910 On April 27, Charles (age 45) and Dinah (age 44) Watkins lived at 2856 Coddington Avenue in the Bronx Borough of New York with their children Olive (age 17), Clifton (age 14), and William (age 6). Charles and Dinah had been married 19 years. Dinah had had 3 children and all 3 were living. Charles and Dinah and their parents were born in English Canada. The children were born in New York. Charles immigrated in 1890 and was a naturalized citizen. Charles was a carpenter and Olive was a milliner. Charles and Dinah owned their home and it was mortgaged. [9]

1913 Charles Watkins died on May 15 in Bronx, New York. [10] An abstract of his death certificate states that he was age 48, and his address was 2850 LaSalle Avenue. He was born in Newfoundland on December 18, 1864. His parents were Hugh Watkins and Mary Hawkins, both born in Newfoundland. He was buried on May 18, 1913, in St. Michaels cemetery. [11]

1915 On June 1, Dinah Watkins (age 50) lived at 2850 LaSalle Avenue in the Bronx Borough of New York with her daughter Olive (age 22) and her sons Clifton (age age 19) and William (age 11). Dinah was born in English Canada, had lived in the U.S. for 24 years, and was a citizen of the United States. The children were born in the U.S. Olive and Clifton were bookkeepers and William was at school. [12]

1916 Watkins, "Dinah (wid Chas.) h 2850 LaSalle Ave." and "Clifton B. bkpr Greenwich Savings bank h Westchester" were listed in the 1916 New York, New York City Directory. [13]

1920 On January 12, Dinah Watkins (age 57) lived at 2563 Anthony Avenue in Bronx Assembly District 8 in the Bronx Borough of New York with her son Clifton B. Watkins (age 24), daughter Olive (age 26) and son William (age 16). Dinah and her parents were born in English Canada. The children were born in New York. Dinah immigrated in 1891 and was an alien. Clifton was a clerk in a bank and Olive was a stenographer in an office. [14]

1927 Diana Watkins died on December 9 in Manhattan. [15] An abstract of her death certificate states that she was age 63 and that her parents were Samuel and Anna Bulgen. [16]
