1742 John Randall purchased 100 acres of land from Patrick Rocke, of Northampton County, North Carolina. The tract was part of a patent granted to Robert Sherwood in 1720. The deed was dated February 23, 1741/42. [1]

1745 John Randall, of Northampton County, North Carolina, sold land to William Rutland. The tract was part of a patent granted to William Baker. The deed was dated August 29. [2]

1747 An indenture was made on January 21 between Alexander Bruce Senr. of Raleigh Parish, Amelia County, and John Randle of St. Andrew Parish, Brunswick county of £42 for 420a on South side Meherrin River, formerly granted to the said Alexr. Bruce by Patent dated September 28, 1728. Signed Alexr. Bruce (bhm). Witnesses: Josias Randle, Peter Ware, John McGuffee. (Brunswick County, Virginia Deed 3-369) [3]

1747 John and William Randle received grants for lands on Lightfoot Creek and Cold Water Creek, respectively. John granted the land on Cold Water run to daughter Susanna Ware in 1750. [4] [5]

1747 A patent for land was given "To John Randle 1,100 Acres including his Lands already Survey'd on Lightfoots Creek and to have an inclusive Patent for the same". [6]

1747 A patent for land was given "To William Randle 1,000 Acres including 700 already Surveyed on the Branches of Cold Water Run in Brunswick". [7]

1749 An Indenture was made on September 25 between John Randle of Brunswick County, and Robert Taylor of Amelia County with £81 for 250a on South side of Meherrin River on Cold Water Run, granted by Patent to John Randle. Signed John Randle. Witnesses: Daniel sears, Geo: Smith, Junr. Court September 26, 1749, Indenture and memorandum acknowledged by John Randle and Francis the wife of the said John personally appeared and relinquished right of dower. (Brunswick County, Virginia Deed 3-597) [8]

1750 John Randle of St. Andrew Parish, Brunswick County, for Love and affection which I have and bear unto my beloved Daughter Susanna Ware of same, grant all messuage (?) and Plantation whereon the said Susanna now lives with 163 acres thereto adjoining, being same land purchased of Millinton Blalock by me the said John Randle 08 March 1748, on a branch of Cold Water Run, 5 March 1750. 1751 A grant for land was made "To John Randle Two Thousand Acres including his Surveys on Lightfoots Creek and the Rocky Run joining the lines of John Tomerlin, George Walton, and Josias Randle in Brunswick", at a council held October 26th 1751. [10]

1752 John Randall and wife Mary, of Northampton County, North Carolina, sold land to Edward Wright. The tract was part of a patent granted to Robert Sherwood. The deed was dated March 20. [11]

1752 The will of John Randle, of Brunswick County, Virginia, was dated November 17. (Brunswick County, VA Will Book 3, pg. 116)

In the name of God Amen, I John Randall of Brunswick County being of perfect sound disposing mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of this life and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament and first of all I recommend my soul unto the hands of God that gave it to me hoping through the merits of my blessed Savior to have remittion of all my sins and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as vouching such temporal Estate as it pleased God to Bless me with I give and dispose of in the following manner.

IMPRIMIS I give and bequeath to my loving wife, Frances Randall the use of all my personal estate during her life and widowhood as also the use of my manor plantation during her life or widowhood. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Josias Randall one shilling Sterling. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Susanna Ware one shilling Sterling. Item. It is my will and desire that all my lands be equally divided between my three sons John Randall, William Randall and Peter Randall only reserving for my son John Randall the first choice of my land.

Item. It is my will and desire that after the death or marriage of my wife that all my personal estate to be equally divided between my three sons John Randall, William Randall and Peter Randall and my daughter Frances Randall only reserving to my son John Randall the first choice and I do nominate and appoint Frances Randall my wife and my friend Arthur Harris executors of this my last will and testatment. In witness whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and seal this seventeenth day of November 1752.

At a court held for Brunswick County on the 28th day of August, 1753, This will was presented in court by Frances Randall one of the executors therein named who, made oath thereto and the same was proved by the oaths of Joseph Ships and John Booth, witness thereto and ordered to be recorded and certificate granted the said Mary for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, she having with John Maclin and William Randall all her securities of five hundred pounds with condition according to law and Liberty was reserved to Arthur Harris the other executor therein named to join the probate thereof when he should think fit.

A biosketch of John Randle, perhaps father-in-law of Peter Ware reported [13]:

John Randle, born in King William County, Va., February 9, 1705, came to Brunswick County, Va. as early as 1737. He was granted 250 acres on Meherrin River, September 16, 1740. In Brunswick, January 21, 1747 he bought land in St. Andrews Parish on South side of Meherrin River, witnessed by Josias Randle and Peter Ware. August 15, 1756, he was granted 1,470 acres (Land office, Richmond, Va., Book 33, page 271) on Lightfoot's Creek and Rocky Run adjoining Josias Randle's line in Brunswick County. John Randle married about 1725 Frances__, and left will dated November 17, 1752, probated in Brunswick County, Va., August 28, 1753 (Will Book 3, page 116). His wife Frances and friend Arthur Harris were executors. The will was presented in court by Frances Randall and the said Mary was granted certificate for probate, John Maclin and William Randle, Securities. (Note: Unless the use of name "Mary" was just a plain error on the part of Court Clerk, her name must have been Mary Frances. Randall was the spelling used throughout this will.) He moved to Brunswick Co, VA about 1740 when he was granted 250 acres of land for 25 shillings money, land on Meherrin River in Brunswick Co, adjoining Mr. HARRISON's land. 16 Sept. 1740 He received also a grant of 1740 acres of land for seven pounds ten shillings good money lying in the County of Brunswick, on Branches of LIGHTFOOT's CREEK, with Meanders to Rockey run and adjoining Josiah RANDLE's line. Granted 16 Aug 1756. (Believe this is the land known as RANDLE's ORDINARY)

The land where on the said Josias RANDALE (RANDLE) now lives. Also one other plantation tract on Fountain Creek by the said Creek the Rocky Run, George Waltons and Quarrels Swamps 400 acres and considerable personal estate. 1767. Deed Book 9, page 170. Josias RANDALL (RANDLE) and Daniel Fisher sell Catherine Griffin 100 acres of land which RANDALL had sold to Fisher above. Part of tract of land patented to Richard Powell in 1743 and by Powell to Robert Proctor and by Proctor to RANDLE and by RANDLE to Fisher. On Rocky Run and is part of a larger tract of land RANDALL sold Fisher. RANDALL's wife is not mentioned. 26 Jun 1769. Deed Book 9, page 462. Great part of the land is proper for tobacco, wheat, or corn. The plantation with the tavern upon it may be either sold or rented. Any person inclinable to purchase, or rent, may know the terms by applying to the subscriber, near Brunswick court-house. Notes for Randle's Ordinary [31]

The Dromgoole store, operated by a local planter-merchant, was located about three to four miles south of the Meherrin River in Brunswick County at or near a place known as Randle's Ordinary, long a focus of several roads. This store, the first in a five chain operation, was establised on property purchased in 1787.
