1980 Florence L. Smith died on May 27 in Davenport, Iowa.

Mrs. Smith, church, civic leader, dies

Mrs. Florence L. Smith, 85, of the Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Davenport, formerly of 2319 18th Ave., Moline, died Tuesday at the Retirement Village. Mrs. Smith was active in church work and civic organizations.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, with Dr. Wayne C. Hess, First United Methodist Church, Moline, officiating. Burial will be in the Aledo Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.

Florence Logan was born in Mercer County. She married Elmer E. Smith in July 1915 in Keithsburg. He died April, 1965.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Keithsburg High School and attended the former Western Illinois Teachers College, Macomb. She was an elementary school teacher in Keithsburg prior to her marriage.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday school class and organized the Contracer Sunday school class. She had served as president of United Methodist Women. She was the first president of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Aledo United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the church choir and taught the adult Sunday school class.

Mrs. Smith was past president of the Lend-a-Hand Circle of King's Daughters, and organized the Mizpath Circle of King's Daughters, which later took her name as the Florence Smith-Mizpath Circle, in her honor.

Mrs. Smith had served on the board of directors of the Community Nursing Service, Moline, and on the board of directors of the Moline YWCA. She was past chairman of the Art and Literature Department of the Moline Women's Club, and was past president of the Fortnightly Club, Moline.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Martha Bonynge, Orion; three sons, Frank E., Alexis, Dr. Robert L., Morgantown, W.Va., and Kenneth B., Moline; 11 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; two half-sisters, Mrs. Lillian Kurtz, Missouri, and Mrs. Miriam Reed, Arizona, and three half-brothers, Sumner Mickey, Arizona, Frank Mickey, Indiana, and Joe Mickey, Warren, Mich.

2008 Daughter Martha L. Bonynge of Rock Island, Illinois died on August 21. Martha L. Bonynge was born on June 14, 1916. [19]

2016 Son Dr Robert Leslie Smith died on March 27 and was buried at Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Mercer County, Illinois. Dr Robert Leslie Smith was born on March 4, 1921. [20] [21]

2016 Son Kenneth B. Smith died on May 27 and was buried at Moline Memorial Park, Moline, Rock Island County, Illinois. Kenneth B. Smith was born on January 29, 1926. [22] [23]

1922 Florence E Wood and Earl E Smith were married on February 2, 1922, in Warren County, Iowa. Florence E Wood was a child of David C Wood and Minnie Kiesel. [24]

1992 Florence Smith (1894 - 1992) died and was buried at Motor Cemetery, Milo, Warren County, Iowa. Her grave marker also named Earl E. Smith (1891 - 1982) and reported their marriage on February 22, 1922. [25] Her social security records report that she died on August 26, 1992 and was born on December 22, 1894. She last lived at Warren County, Iowa. [26]
