Notes for Leonard Reber and Anna Margaretha Klein

Robert Wolfe is a descendant of John Rivir [1] and Mary Winebrenner. We have assembled these notes for Leonard Reber, who could be related to John Rivir. However, we have found little DNA evidence to support this possibility. We seek further evidence concerning these potential relationships.

The second survey showed adjacent land owned by Jacob Petree [see the 1768 baptismal sponsorship]. [21]

A biosketch reports [60]:

The Reber family which is quite numerous in Reading and in the northeastern section of Berks county, had its beginning in Leonard Raver (Reber), who was a German Palatinate and came to America prior to 1740. In that year he had already settled in Windsor (now Perry) township, where he owned considerable land. Warrants for land were deeded to him as follows: Oct. 11, 1750, for ninety-three acres; April 5, 1775, another warrant was given him. Prior to these dates he already owned land. In 1769 Leonard Reber sold a tract of his land to George, his oldest son. He died prior to May 1, 1777, leaving the following eleven children: George, whose wife's first name was Anna Elizabeth; Adam, of Northampton county (now Weisenburg township, Lehigh county); John, of Berks county; Frederick, of Northampton county; Leonard of Northampton county: Dorothy (m. Henry Roush, of Berks county) ; Hannah (m. Jacob Häffly, of Berks county; Elizabeth (m. Nicholas Lingel, of Berks county); Christina (m. Conrad Ruhl): Catherine (m. Adam De Walt); and Magdalena (m. Adam Bieber). …

Research Notes:

The name "Ontelaunee Creek" is derived from a Native American (Indian) language meaning "Maiden Creek". [61] [62]

There was a Reber's Bridge Road leading to the Hiester-Reber grist mill in this watershed. Was this Leonard's place on Maiden's Creek?

Reber's Bridge Road is on the Tulpehocken Creek canoe area: [63]

Reber's Mill and Bridge are landmarks along the Schuylkill River Pennsylvania Heritage Area [64] [65]

Hiester Mill, or Reber Mill is stop 12 along the Union Canal Bicycle & Walking Trail [66]

Joseph Reber (1796) was an ancestor of Emma Reber (1867-1954) spouse of James Hiester [67]

1776 Michael Reber, relationship unknown, was granted a warrant for land in Maxatawney or Rockland Twp, Berks County. [68] [69]

The relationship to the family of Bernhard Reber, if any, is unknown to us. [70] [71]

Johan Philip Klein, immigrated on the ship Samuel on August 27, 1739, has been named as the father of Anna Margaretha Klein. We seek evidence to clarify this possibility. Philip and Anna Margaretha Mueller were married on December 20, 1707, at Ravolzhausen, Hesse, Germany (near Langenselbold) [72]

1760 George Klin was taxed in Windsor Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [73] Adam Klein was taxed. [74]
