Notes for Adam de Periton and Cecily

1227 On October 22, Adam de Periton was granted seisin of land in Oxhill, Warwickshire, which he inherited from his father. [1]

For Adam de Periton’. To the sheriff of Warwickshire. The king has taken the homage of Adam de Periton’ for the lands that Thomas de Periton’, his father, held in chief in Oxhill and that fall to Adam by hereditary right. Order that, having accepted security from Adam for 7½ m., namely for rendering a moiety at Easter in the twelfth year and for rendering the other moiety at Michaelmas in the same year, of the fine that he made with the king for the same lands, he is to cause him to have full seisin without delay of the aforesaid lands with their appurtenances.

1235 "June 15. Woodstock. Grant to Adam de Periton that he and his heirs may essart and cultivate his wood of Fackel, which is within the king's forest, and dispose of it as they will, so that it shall be quit of waste, and regard and view of foresters, verderers, and regarders and of all things pertaining to the forest. Habet terminos.
Mandate in pursuance to John de Neville." [2]

1238 "Nov. 13. Woodstock. Grant to Adam de Periton, and his heirs, of free warren in his land of Rammesham, as William Warwast, the ancestor of Thomas de Periton, father of the said Adam, had it in the time of King Henry I, and as the said Thomas had it in the time of King Henry II, pursuant to a charter of King Henry II." [3]

1241 On October 24, Adam de Periton was granted seisin of the forest of Bradon which he inherited from Thomas de Samford. [4]

24 Oct. Westminster.
For Adam de Periton'. Adam de Periton' gives the king 10 m. for having seisin of the bailiwick of the forest of Bradon, which Thomas de Samford had, because Adam is an heir of the same Thomas, and for having seisin of all things which pertain to him of the aforesaid inheritance.

1250 On December 27, Adam de Periton recovered the forest of Braydon of which he had been deprived by the king's court. [5]

27 Dec. Winchester. Concerning the fine of Adam de Periton’. Adam de Periton’ has made fine with the king by 200 m. for recovering for himself and his heirs the forest of Braydon, of which he was deprived by consideration of the king’s court (curie Regis) for a trespass that he made in the same, of which he is to render 50 m. to the king at the Exchequer of Easter in the thirty-fifth year, 50 m. at the Exchequer of Michaelmas next following, and the remaining 100 m. thus in the following year at the same terms. Order to G. de Langley, justice of the forest, to cause Adam to have full seisin of the aforesaid bailiwick with all its appurtenances.

1250/51 "Jan. 22. Windsor. Notification that Adam de Periton, sometime bailiff in fee of the forest of Braden, of which office he was deprived by judgement of the king's court for a trespass committed by him in the said forest, has a re-grant of that office, by a fine made by him to the king, to be held by him and his heirs as long as he shall faithfully discharge that office; and the said Adam and his heirs may course the fox and the hare in the said forest, provided that they take none of the deer." [6]

1257/58 On March 23, Adam de Periton gave the king one mark to transfer a plea before the justices of the Bench. [7]

23 March. … Wiltshire. Adam de Periton gives the king one mark for having a pone [to transfer a plea] before the justices of the Bench. Order to the sheriff of Wiltshire to take etc.
