Research Notes:

Thomas Early may have married, first, Esther and, second, Martha Cochran/Cockerham. Nephew William of the 1880 census was born while Thomas was married to Esther. Martha Cockerham may have been the mother of the three children listed in the 1880 census, who all named Thomas Earley and Mattie Cochram/Early as their parents. Perhaps three of the four children that Martha reported having in the 1900 census were Corda, Hayes, and Mary Esther/Easter, as listed in the 1880 census. The fourth may have been William, listed as a nephew of Thomas in 1880. Perhaps Esther and Martha were sisters. The 1850 census for the family of William Cochran, which would likely list Esther, if she were a sister, has not been found. The 1840 census reports another daughter born between 1830-1835, perhaps Esther.
