Notes for Johann Henrich Nicodemus and Anna Margretha Herr

Research Notes:

We are just starting to put this family together based on reports from other researchers. We seek documentation of the relationships reported here, which are mostly copied from other secondary undocumented research sources. See [1]

Johann Henrich Nicodemus b. 30 May 1677 at Medenbach, Nassau (now part of the state of Hessen in Germany). Johann Henrich died in Medenbach 22 Mar 1715, but his son, Johann Adam Nicodemus b. 30 Oct 1705 and at least four of his sons came to America in the 1750s.

We are researching Catherine Nicodemus, perhaps a grand daughter of Johann Nicodemus, brother of Johann Adam Nicodemus. Robert has DNA matches with several descendants of Johann Adam Nicodemus.

1756 A newspaper notice published on May 16 in the Pennsylvanische Berichte newspaper of Philadelphia described a search for Joh. Adam Nicodemus, perhaps a descendant of this family. [2]:

Joh. Adam Nicodemus, born at Medenbach in Nassau Dillenburg, living in Lancaster, should write to me at once or come in person, on account of the security that I, out of pity, have given him, in order that his son should be free from his hard master, Georg Trimmer, in Anweil, N.J. I have had no reply from five letters and Georg Trimmer has on account of it taken me to court and laid the costs upon me. If he does not come and make it right, I must go before the Magistrate and get what is mine. Johann Caspar Lapp, Pastor in Anweil.
