We are researching William Ivins, son of our ancestor, Isaac Ivins (1680-1768).

1750 William Ivins was listed among customers at Imlay's Store in Bordentown, New Jersey. [1]

1751-57 William Ivins was a resident of Bordentown Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. [2]

1755 Samuel Ivins sold his share of jointly held land land to William Ivins, for 5 shillings. Dated December 10, 1755. They were brothers, late of Cheterfield, but now of Chester, Burlington County, New Jersey. Samuel and William Ivins had purchased the land from Jonathan Borden on May 5, 1752. A map on the deed reported the 91 acre tract was adjacent to lands of Thos. Hackney, Philip Wallis, Hugh Hollinshead, Edmond Hollinshead, and Samuel Ivins. Samuel Ivins personally affirmed the deed on December 2, 1796. [3]

1759 William Ivins purchased land from Hope and John Wallace, executors of the estate of Thomas Wallace, late of Chester Twp. The land had been purchased from Jonathan Borden in 1742. [4]

1766 Samuel, Thomas, William, and Isaac Ivins were named as receiving payment from the estate of John Schooley, who died in Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey in 1748. [5]

1774 William Ivins was taxed in Chester Twp, Burlington County, for 199 acres of land and 18 cattle and horses. [6]

Research Notes:

Three possible wives have been named for William Ivins. We seek further evidence about the spouse of William Ivins, son of Isaac Ivins and Sarah Johnson.

1741 William Ivins married Rachel Shaw after declarations at the Chesterfield Monthly Meeting of 7-8 month and 4-9 month 1742. [7]

1767 A marriage for William might be listed as William Ivins and Samuel Ivins, both of Chester Township in the County of Burlington...[bound to]... William Franklin, Governor... 500 pounds... 1 Aug 1767. ... William Ivins...obtained license of marriage for himself and for Pricilla Page of the same county, spinster...[w] Rob't Burchan. [8]

1773 William Ivins and Stacy Fenton, both of Chesterfield in the County of Burlington...[bound to]... William Franklin, Governor... 500 pounds... 7 April 1773. ... William Ivins...obtained license of marriage for himself and for Mary French... [w] Jos Borden, J. Potts.

1791 The will of William Ivens of Chester Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey, was dated September 3 and was proved on August 18, 1792. The will named wife Precillia, daughter Rebecah, Hannah Garwood (wife of John), son Amos, nephew William, son William (apparently deceased) and his children Rachel, Phanna and Ezekiel; Rachel Hackney (wife of Edmund) daughter of son Ezekiel. Executors wife Precillia and friend Joseph Stokes. Witnesses Samuel Ivins, Thomas Page, and John Risdon. Inventory: August 7, valued at £281.7.5, made by Thomas Gill and Thomas Page. [9] [10] [11] Persilla Ivins and Joseph Stokes were appointed administrators on February 13, 1794. [12] The account listed payments to Thomas Page, Amos Ivins, and others.
