Notes for John S Wolf and Mary Eichelberger

1840 John Wolf lived in Southampton Twp, Franklin County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (15 thru 19) and 1 (20 thru 29); and females: 1 (under 5), 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (20 thru 29), and 1 (40 thru 49). [1]

1850 On August 24, John Wolf (age 37) lived in Southampton Twp, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Maria Wolf (age 36), Sarah Ann Wolf (age 13), Geo W Wolf (age 8), John Wolf (age 6), Levina Wolf (age 4), and Cyrus Wolf (age 1), all born in Pennsylvania. John's occupation was farmer and the value of his real estate was 6500. [2] [3]

1853 Christian Wolff, of South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, dated his will on April 21. He made bequests to his wife Sarah and 14 children: Catherine, intermarried with Jenkin Lewis; Susan, intermarried with William Dean; Adam Wolf; Christian Wolf; John Wolf; Jacob Wolf; Rebecca (now a widow); Elizabeth, intermarried with John Youndt; George Wolf; Sarah intermarried with Henry Mellinger; Maria, intermarried with Lewis Sponsler; Ann Wolf; Ruben Wolf; Edward L Wolf; and to Christian and Mary, children of deceased son Henry. 1860 John S Wolf (age 47) lived in Upper Dickinson Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Mary Wolf (age 47), John Wolf (age 16), Lavina Wolf (age 14), Frank P Wolf (age 7), and Ellen Wolf (age 5), all born in Pennsylvania. John S Wolf's occupation was farmer, the value of his real estate was 6000, and his personal estate was 700. [5] [6]

1862 John S Wolf enlisted in Company B, 165th Infantry, Pennshylvania. He mustered out on July 28, 1863 at Gettysburg. [7]

1863 John S. Wolf of Penn Twp, Cumberland County, made a claim for damages caused by Rebel soldiers. [8]

1870 On July 15, John S Wolf (age 57) lived in Penn Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Mary Wolf (age 57), Sarah Wolf (age 78 "old lady" [perhaps John's mother]), Franklin Wolf (age 17), and Mary E Wolf (age 15), all born in Pennsylvania. John S Wolf's occupation was retired farmer, the value of his real estate was 6000 and his personal estate was 250. [9] [10]

1880 On June 21, John S. Wolf (age 73), his wife Polly Wolf (age 65), and son Franklin P. Wolf (age 23) lived in Penn Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. All members of the household and their parents were born in Pennsylvania. John S. Wolf's occupation was retired farmer. Franklin was a laborer. [11] [12]

1885 John S. Wolf died on July 28, 1885 and was buried at Centerville Lutheran Church Cemetery Newville, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. No grave marker photo is shown at the memorial. [13] [14]

1885 Letters of administration were issued to Michael Long on August 4 for the estate of John S Wolf of Penn Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. John Wolf had died on July 28, 1885. [15] [16]

1887 F.P. Wolf, age 35, and Mary E. Fraker were married on June 9 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. F.P. Wolf, son of John S. Wolf and Mary Eckelberger, was born about 1852. (FHL film 000021005). [17]

1890 "Mary, Wife of J.S. Wolf, Died Aug. 16, 1890, Aged 76 years" and was buried at Centerville Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newville, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [18] [19]

1908 Sarah A Flickenger, widow, died on February 21, 1908, at age 69, in Harrisburg Twp, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. She was born on March 4, 1838, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and her age was 69 years, 11 months, 17 days. Her parents were J_ [overwritten with Sam'l] Wolfe and Mary Eichelberger, both born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 15138). [20]

1911 John Wolf died on September 7, 1911, in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 83880). The certificate states that he was born on April 12, 1848, in Pennsylvania, his age was 63 years, 4 months, 26 days, his father was John S. Wolf, born in Pennsylvania, and his mother was unknown, born in Pennsylvania. The informant was Mrs. John Wolf of Carlisle. [21]

1915 Lavina Fox, widow, died on August 21, 1915, at age 69 years 8 months 3 days, in Loyalsock Twp, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Lavina Fox was born on December 18, 1845, in Cumberland County, daughter of John S Wolf and Mary Echelberger, both born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 79640). [22]

1921 Franklin Pierce Wolf died on December 15, 1921, at age 70 years 3 months 10 days, in Southampton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Franklin Pierce Wolf was born on September 6, 1851, in Pennsylvania, son of John Wolf and Mary Unknown, both born in Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 118788). [23]

Research Notes:

A Findagrave memorial links a George W. Wolff as a son of John S. Wolf and Mary Eichelberger, but his obituary states that this George W. Wolff had a sibling Jacob and mentions no other siblings.

1901 George W. Wolf died on December 29 and was buried at Antietam Church Cemetery Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. [24] [25]

George W. Wolf died at his home, No. 149 South Potomac avenue, at 4:50 o'clock Sunday afternoon, he had been a sufferer for a long time from a troublesome disease. Sunday morning at 5 o'clock be was stricken with paralysis and his entire left side was affected. He did not regain consciousness after receiving the stroke.

Mr. Wolf was 61 years old and was born near Chambersburg. He was engaged in farming near Grindstone Hill for a number of years and there married Mary Helman, by whom he had two sons, Lawrence C. Wolf, of this place, and William Wolf near Fayetteville.

After the death of his first wife he moved to Mont Alto and married Elizabeth Gossard. He worked on the ore banks there for a number of years and about nine years ago came to Waynesboro. For about four years he was employed in Frick boiler shops and for the past four or five years operated one of the emery wheels in the Geiser shops. He had the respect of all his associates and was an industrious, hard-working man, when his disease permitted him to engage actively at his trade. A number of years ago he became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church but had not attended its services recently because of his illness.

One brother, Jacob Wolf, ex-post master at Salem, Greene township, and a brother-in-law, Joseph Gossard, Hamilton avenue, survive him, and his widow and these children: Lawrence C., William, Harvey, Ira, Earl, Effie, Katie and Susan. All except William reside in Waynesboro.

Funeral, Wednesday. Services at 1 p.m. at house, conducted by Rev. J. R. Hutchison. Interment at Price's church graveyard.
