1789 Johanes, son of Michael Zartman and Margreth was born on September 25. He was baptized on October 26 with sponsor Emanuel and Elizabeth Zartman, at Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [1]

1816 Several Zartman family members and Heinrich, Joh, Heinrich, Regina, Cath, and Hans Steiner were communicants at the Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Warwick, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on April 28. [2]

1817 Israel Zahrtman, child of Johanes Zahrtman and Regina Zahrtman, was born on November 7, 1817. He was baptized on March 14, 2018, at the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [3]

1820 Fyannah, daughter of Joh and Regina Zahrtman, was born on April 10. She was baptized on June 4 with sponsors Joh and Margarete Klein, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Warwick, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [4]

1820 John Zartman lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 1 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44). [5]

1822 Catharina, daughter of Joh and Regina Zahrtman, was born on January 8. She was baptized on April 25 with sponsors Jacob and Susanna Stober, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Warwick, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [6]

1823 Isaac Zahrtman, child of Johanes Zahrtman and Regina Zahrtman, was baptized on November 16 at the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Isaac Zahrtman was born on September 18. [7]

1827 Harriette Zahrtman, child of Joh Zahrtman and Regina Zahrtman, was baptized on April 27, 1827, at the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Harriette Zahrtman was born on January 26, 1827, in Pennsylvania. [8]

1828 Henry Steiner, blacksmith of Elizabeth Twp, Lancaster County, wrote his will, dated February 22, 1828. The will named wife Susanna and children Elizabeth married to John Schlick; Sally, married to Christian Wolf; Regina, married to John Zartman; Susanna, married to Jacob Stutenroth; John Steiner; Catharine (now deceased) was married to Jacob Hacker; Henry Steiner; and Anna, married to Daniel Spayde. The will was signed Henrich Steiner and was witnessed by John Sherb and Michael Kline. Son John Steiner was named executor. The will was proved on July 16, 1828. [9]

1830 John Zartman lived in Elizabeth Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 5), 1 (5 thru 9), and 1 (30 thru 39); and females: 2 (under 5), 2 (5 thru 9), and 1 (30 thru 39). [10]

1832 Sarah Zahrtman, child of Joh Zahrtman and Regina Zahrtman, was baptized on October 14 at the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. John Steiner and wife Maria were sponsors. Sahra Zahrtman was born on August 14. [11]

1840 John Zartman lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (15 thru 19), 1 (20 thru 29), and 1 (40 thru 49); and females: 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (10 thru 14), 1 (15 thru 19), and 1 (40 thru 49). [12]

1850 Regina Zartman (age 56, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with John Zartman (age 59), and Sarah Zartman (age 18). [13]

1860 Regina Zartman (age 66, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in a household with John Zartman (age 71). [14]

1862 Sarah Zartman Lenhert died on December 30 and was buried at Brickerville United Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brickerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Sarah Zartman Lenhert was born on August 14, 1832. [15]

1887 Harriet Zartman Hollinger died on April 28 and was buried at Brickerville United Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brickerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Harriet Zartman Hollinger was born on January 26, 1828. [16] [17]

Mrs. Harriet Hollinger (nee Zartman), wife of Benjamin Hollinger, died at Lexington last Thursday evening, April 29th, aged 59 years, 3 months and 2 days. Mrs. Hollinger was a sister to Israel Zartman, of Lexington, and had three daughters, one single, one married to John Gantz and one to John L. Shaar. As a wife, mother and devoted member of the church she was a model for others to imitate, and her loss will be keenly felt by relatives, friends and neighbors. Her sickness was bilious fever of six weeks' duration. Funeral took place Monday, May 2d, at the Brickerville Lutheran church, where Rev. Semmel performed the last sad rites.

1893 Fianna Zartman Weidman, wife of Daniel Wiedman, died on January 15 and was buried at Brickerville United Lutheran Church Cemetery, Brickerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Fianna Zartman Weidman was born on April 10, 1820. [18]

1897 Catharine Zartman Weidman died on October 26, 1897 and was buried at Brickerville United Lutheran Church & Cemetery Brickerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [19]

Rev. Leibensberger reported her death on Oct. 26, 1897, near Lexington, Pa., and burial on Oct. 30. He identified her as "Daughter of John Zartman and his wife, Regina (Steiner). Baptized in youth by Rev. Bates. Confirmed in early age in Lutheran Church at Brickerville. Married to Elias Weidman on Aug. 6, 1844. 3 children (all sons) were born. All survive. Died of palsy. Aged 75 yrs., 9 mos.& 18 days."

1899 Isaac S. Zartman died on January 4 and was buried at Freeport City Cemetery, Freeport, Stephenson County, Illinois. Isaac S. Zartman was born on September 18, 1823. [20]

Isaac S. Zartman, son of John, son of John Michael, son of Alexander II, son of Alexander I, was born September 18, 1823, baptized Nov. 16, 1823, in Lancaster County., Pa. When a young man he went West and located in Freeport, Illinois, which is now a city of about 20,000 inhabitants; he engaged in the lumber trade. On Jan. 3, 1854, he married Elizabeth E. Baker, and to them was born a son, Harvey Baker Zartman, on July 14, 1866. Isaac S. Zartman died Jan. 4, 1899. Mrs. Isaac S. Zartman died June 15, 1891. Harvey B. Zartman is a graduate of the Freeport High School and is engaged in the lumber and coal business. He is with the firm of Sanford and Zartman. On Jan. 3, 1894, Harvey B. Zartman married Mabel Louise Ford; they are members of the Presbyterian Church and have the following children: Elizabeth, b. Nov. 29, 1894, died Oct 19, 1896; Harvey Ford, b. Freeport Daily Bulletin (Freeport, Ill.), January 4, 1899:
ISAAC S. ZARTMAN - one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of this city, passed away at his home on Stephenson street at 1:15 o'clock this afternoon. He had been ailing for nearly a year. His trouble was obscure but his physician, Dr. Caldwell, suspects it to be multiple abscesses of the liver. The deceased was born Sept. 18, 1823, in Lancaster county, Pa., where he grew to manhood. He came west when a young man and settled in this county July 11, 1853. He began working at the trade of carpenter and joiner and was quite successful. In 1863 he opened the Pennsylvania house and conducted it for many years. In 1881 he sold the house to Robert Bell and retired. He was married to Elizabeth E. Baker on Jan. 31, 1854. She died in 1891. Mr. Zartman leaves one son Harvey B. Zartman.

1901 Israel Zartman died on March 31, 1901, at age 83y 4m 24d, and was buried at Brickerville United Lutheran Church & Cemetery Brickerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [21]

Son of John Zartman & his wife, Regina (nee Steiner). Baptized in infancy by Rev. W. Bates. Confirmed in youth & received as a member of Emanuel Luth. Ch., Brickerville. Life long member, Married in 1840 to Catharine Weidman. She preceded him in death 5 yrs. He was a member of ch. council many times. His disease was apoplexy & pneumonia. Funeral at 9 a.m. Aged 83-4-24.

Israel Zartman Dead:
Israel Zartman, one of the oldest and best known residents of Lexington, Warwick township, died on Sunday afternoon at the residence of his son Addison, where he had his home. Death resulted from pneumonia after a week's illness. He was 83 years, 4 months and 14 days old. In younger years he was a farmer and also a carpenter; he also carried on the undertaker business for a number of years, but for the past ten years he has lived retired. His wife died five years ago. He was one of the oldest members of the Emanuel's Lutheran church at Brickerville. He was one of the organizers of the Penn Township Mutual Fire Insurance and was a director of it until several years ago when he would not accept it anymore on account of old age. He was also one of the organizers of the Lititz National bank and a director at the time of his death. Deceased is survived by two sons, Addison and Martin, both living in Lexington. His funeral took place on Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the house, with interment at the Emanuel's Lutheran cemetery at Brickerville. Rev. A. W. Leibensperger, of Lititz, officiated. [22]

Research Notes:

Israel Zartman was 45 when he faced the Civil War draft in the fall of 1862. A substitute, Abraham Shreiner, agreed to serve in his place.
