Research Notes:

Some researchers name Reuben L Pickett as a son of this couple. His will named wife Rebecca and brother Thomas and possible unborn children, and if there are no unborn children, then the estate goes to his brothers and sisters. Witnessed by Patience Cafsity and Mary A Pickett. No date. Father to be paid for debt. [38]

It is not clear whether this James or his brother Micajah was the father of Micajah Pickett, born 1748 and Sarah, spouse of Alredge (named as a sister of Micajah in his will). Here are notes written by Kuzriel Meir in the Pickett Family Genealogy Forum: "The lineage of Colonial Dames has Micajah's father as James Pickett of Anson county North Carolina, who was sheriff and had come from Caroline County Virginia and was the son of John Pickett." [39]

"James Pickett, Son of John Pickett, Grandson of Henry Pickett, James Pickett, the son of John and Mary Pickett, was born in Carolina County, Virginia. He married Hannah Rennolds, and they moved to Anson County, North Carolina. Among John and Hannah Pickett's children were: James Pickett, Jr., Thomas Pickett, Micajah Pickett, John Pickett, William Pickett, Reuben L. Pickett, Sarah Pickett, Charles Pickett. An entry in the 1766 North Carolina Colonials Records reading "James Pickett's (former sheriff of Anson County, North Carolina) Estate was allowed sixteen pounds for his salary for the year of 1756 and 1757 having accounted for those years." suggests that he died that year.

[Photocopy] This image of a bible record was found once on the internet. It suggests that James Pickett might be the father of Micajah Pickett.
