Notes for Jonathan Arledge and Sarah Pickett

Research Notes:

1779 John Aldredg witnessed the will of Robert Love of Camden District, Kershaw/Camden County, South Carolina.

1790 Isaac Arledge lived in Fairfield County, South Carolina, in a household with 1 males age 16 and over, and 1 females. [1]

1790 The will of Isaac Arledge was dated January 5, 1790 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. The will named wife Anna, daughters Anne Bishop, Sarah, Huldah and Rachel, and sons Isaac, William, Calib, Joseph, Clement, and Amos. The will was in probate on November 8. [2]

1790 The will of Moses Arledge was dated December 7, 1790 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. The will was proved on June 30, 1791. The will named wife Susahna. [3]

1800 Isaac Arledge lived in Fairfield County, South Carolina in a household with free white males: 1 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (45 and over); and free white females: 1 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and 3 slaves. [4]

1820 Sarah Aldridge lived in Fairfield County, South Carolina in a household with free white males: 2 (10 thru 15); and free white females: 2 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (26 thru 44); and 1 slaves. [5] Moses Aldridge was named on the same page of the census. The previous page of the census named James R. Pickett, Isaac Aldridge, and Clement Aldridge. Perhaps James R. Pickett was a descendant of James Pickett (c1723-c1807) and Elizabeth Raiford or of his father James Pickett (1702-1762) and Hannah Reynolds. This Sarah Aldride was born after 1776, if she were age 44, which is not a good match for a sister of Micajah Pickett (born 1748). Micajah willed a slave, belonging to Sarah, to his son Benjamin, which suggests that Sarah was advanced in age when Micajah wrote his will (he might not will an asset that might not be transferred for another 30 years).

1820 Jonathan Aldridge lived in Rutherford County, North Carolina in a household with males: 4 (Under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 1 (Under 10) and 2 (16 thru 25). [6] Ephraim Jackson, Marville Mills, and James McKinney were listed on the same page.

1821 The will of Clement Arledge was dated on September 19. Clement was a son of Isaac Arledge and a brother of Amos. The will named sons Jephtha, Clement, Isaac, Cyrus and Ely and daughter Ann Warren. The will was proved on January 22, 1822. [7]

1823 The will of Micajah Pickett of Buncomb County, North Carolina, was in probate court on February 15, 1823 in Greenville County, South Carolina. The will named sister Sarah Arlidge and named Micajah's children by Kisanna and Susanna. [8] [9]
