"Matthew Borden, of Portsmouth, R. I. b. at Portsmouth in May 1638, and said in the Friends' records to be 'the first English child born on Rhode Island;' d. 5 July 1708; m. 4 Mar. 1673/4 Sarah Clayton, b. in 1654, d. 19 Apr. 1735. His will was dated 28 Mar. 1705. Ten children." [1]
