Edith Marian Miles Todd wrote of John Omer in her notes, "Bookseller and publisher in Chatham, England. Lover of old editions. Were Huguenots originally, settled on the banks of Humber near Hull, then Chatham-Kent-London a while. Name St. Omaire in France. He was only son of an only son. Well read, clever man. Gilbert Jennings has his will and that of his father. Had property at Margate on the Hoy and when they went to see it they always made their wills as voyage was so dangerous. He and his 6 daughters were well known in Chatham in their time." [14]
