Major Stone cleared and cultivated a large farm, erected a tannery, and established a ferry across the Connecticut. At his death in 1807 he left twelve children, all married and with children of their own. His son George Washington Stone was the father of Malvina Stone. The latter was the wife of the Rev. William Arthur, D.D., and mother of ex-president Chester A. Arthur." [5]
