1600 Richard Gillett, husbandman of Caudle Hadddon, Dorset, wrote his will on 1 July. "In the name of God Amen The Fyrste day of July in the yeare of our Lord god One Thousand Six hundred I Richard Gillet of Caudle Haddon in the County of Dorset husbandmon being sick of Bodie but of perfecte remembrance thankes be to god do make this my last will and Testament in mannor and forme following. First I commend my soule to Allmightie god my maker and redeemer And my bodie to be buried in the Church yard of Caudle aforesaid. Item I geve and bequeath to the poore of Caudle aforesaid to be distributed by myne Executors the some of Twoo shillings. Item I geve and bequeath to my sonne William the some of Tenne poundes. Item I geve and begueath to my sone Edward to be paid to him at the end of his Apprentishipp the some of Five poundes. Item I geve and bequeath to my daughter Mary to be paid to her at her day of marriage the some of Tenne poundes. Item I geve and bequeath to the children of my sonne Richard to be parted equally between the some of Tenne shillings. Item I geve and bequeath to my sonne in lawe William Sheppard One brasse pann And to William Sheppard his sonne the some of Twoo shillings Sixe pence The residue of all my goodes and chattels not given my detts legacies and funerals deschardged I geve and bequeath to Alice my wiefe and John my Sonne equally to be parted between them whome I do make and ordaine myne Executors. In the presence of William Applyn Willyam Adames Richard Gaine Roberte Graunte Teste me Gulielmo Swett curate Ibm.
