1379-1381 William de Kelk was an escheator in 3-4 Richard II (22 June 1379 - 21 June 13810. [1] In another record he is listed as the escheator in Lincolnshire from 5 November 1379 to 18 October 1380. [2]

1379 On November 15, William Kelk, escheator in Lincolnshire, was ordered to cause Robert son of Robert son of Robert de Lisle of Wodeburgh to have seisin of his grandfather's land. [3]

1380 On May 12, William Kelk, escheator in Lincolnshire, was ordered to take the fealty of Walter de Hamby and to give him seisin of his uncle's lands. [4]

1380 On June 22, William Kelk, escheator in Lincolnshire, was ordered to give livery of the manor of Longebenyngton to Thomas earl of "Bukingham" and Eleanor his wife, daughter and coheir of Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford and Essex. "To William de Kelk escheator in Lincolnshire. Like order concerning knights' fees etc. in Holbeche in Holand, Little Paunton, Great Paunton and Germesthorp in Kesteven and Glaston co. Roteland, and in Thoresby in Lyndesey." … Like order to ... "William de Kelk, escheator in Lincolnshire concerning the advowson of Thoresby church in Lyndeseye, extended at 20 marks a year." [5]

1390 William Kelke and his wife Margaret were married by April 24 on which date they granted land to William Groos. [6] [7]

Parties: William Groos, querent, and William Kelk' of Bernetby and Margaret, his wife, deforciants.
Property: 7 messuages, 10 tofts, 14 bovates of land, 100 acres of meadow, 30 acres of pasture, 36 shillings of rent and a rent of 1 pound of pepper in Magna Cotes, Swalowe and Croxby.
Action: Plea of covenant.
Agreement: William Kelk' and Margaret have granted to William Groos the tenements and rents and have remised and quitclaimed whatsoever they had in them for the life of Margaret to him and his heirs for ever.
For this: William Groos has given them 100 pounds sterling.

1394 "Oct. 20. Westminster. Robert Goderyche to William Kelke of Bernetby and William Vere of Stalyngburgh, their heirs and assigns. Quitclaim with warranty of the manor of Thorngobaude in Holdernes co. York, and all the lands in Otryngham, Holme and Thorngobaud some time of William Goderiche knight. Witnesses: Robert de Hilton, John de Sancto Quintino, Robert Thwyer, Peter de Bukton, John de Routhe knights, Thomas Disnay, Peter Notell, Ralph Lellay, William Hatefelde, Ralph Hastyngse, John Croft, Richard Vavisour. Dated Thorngobaude, Thursday after Michaelmas 18 Richard II. Memorandum of acknowledgment, 20 November." [8]

1400 William Kelke of Barnetby witnessed a deed in September.

Henry Maupas clerk to Thomas Smyth chaplain, his heirs and assigns. Charter with warranty of all lands, rents and services in Barton which by fine levied in the king's court the grantor had jointly with John Burton and Robert Garton clerks, both now deceased, by gift of John Kent of Barton and Margaret his wife. Witnesses: William Kelke of Barnetby, John Feriby of Barton, William Garton, William Smyth, Robert Batman and John Proctour of the same. Dated Barton upon Humbre, Tuesday after the Exaltation of Holy Cross 1 Henry IV.

Research Notes:

Barnetby is a village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England, between Scunthorpe and Grimsby.

The Kelke arms, Sable, a bend cotised flory Argent, and pedigree are reported in the Visitation of Lincoln and in Lincoln Pedigrees. [9] [10]
