1833 Winifred Haley was named in the will of Morning Hinson, dated December 30, 1833. [1] [2] [3]

I give and bequeath to my daughter Winifred Hailey and to the heirs of her body the property following one negro man named Williams also three female Negroes namely Juda and Cheve and Jane and all their increase to be cally? appropriated to my daughter Winifred and the lawful issue of her body -

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Winefred Haily all my stock of cattle.

Item I also give and bequeath to my daughter Winifred Haley all my little affects consisting of household and kitchen furniture

Item I also give and bequeath to my grand daughter Nancy Ann Haily one painted chest

1840 Jno W Hailey lived in Anson County, North Carolina in a household with free white males: 1 (under 5), 1 (10 thru 14), and 1 (30 thru 39); and free white females: 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (30 thru 39), and 1 (60 thru 69); and 5 slaves. [4]

1850 Wincy Haily (age 47, born in North Carolina) lived in Sandy Point, Anson County, North Carolina, in a household with John W Haily (age 48), James H Haily (age 20), Hannah Haily (age 16), and Hinson B Haily (age 8). [5]

1860 Wincy Hailey (age 56, born in North Carolina) lived in Diamond Hill, Anson County, North Carolina, in a household with J W Hailey (age 58), and Hannah Hailey (age 23). [6]

1860 H Brooks Haly (age 20, born in North Carolina) lived in Kemper County, Mississippi, in a household with R M Peden (age 38), Rebecca T Peden (age 36), Margaret A Peden (age 17), Nancy J Peden (age 16), Jas O Peden (age 13), Jno C Peden (age 11), Jeff D Peden (age 10), Ada V Peden (age 7), Alex B Peden (age 5), and Cornelius A Peden (age 3). H Brooks Haly's occupation was laborer. [7]

1879 The will of John W Hailey was dated December 26. The will gave land, adjacent to land of James Hailey, to Isaac M Williams. The land was to be held in trust for the sole use of daughter Hannah Diggs, independent of her husband W.S. Diggs. Grand daughter Elln J Hailey and grandson James Hailey were also named. James Hailey and Isaac M Williams were named executors. [8]

1880 John W Hailey, widowed, died in May, at age 76, at Lanesboro, Anson County, North Carolina. [9]

1880 James L Hailey and Isaac M Williams were appointed as joint executors of the will of John W Hailey in Anson County, North Carolina. Dated May 12. [10]

1880 The estate papers of John W Hailey were filed by the executors. The papers included receipts for Hannah Diggs (15926, 15965)[11]

1880 Hannah Diggs (age 45, white, born in North Carolina, married) lived in Lanesboro Twp, Anson County, North Carolina. William Haley, a black servant, lived with her. Helen Lyles,servant, and her son Clyde, both white, lived in the household. Hannah Diggs's parents were both born in North Carolina. The family of James Hailey (age 22) lived adjacent. [12]

Research Notes:

James Atkins, born about 1734 in King and Queen County, Virginia, lived in Montgomery County, North Carolina and had sons, John Atkins, Ephraim Atkins, Hezekiah Atkins, Asa Atkins, Abia Atkins, George Atkins, and Wiliam Atkins.
