Notes for William Coate and Mary

1822 On 6 December, the inventory of the estate of William Coate, made by William Trick and Joshua Forsyth showing an appraisal of $1384.10, was affirmed by administrators Mary Coate, William Stockton, and Thomas Haines. [1]

1823 On May 1, at the orphans' court: "On petition of Mary Coate, widow of William Coate, late of the county of Burlington, deceased, praying that William Stockton & Sarah Coate of the county of Burlington may be appointed guardians of the person and estate of Richard Coate, child of the said William Coate and Mary Coate, until he attain the age of fourteen years and offering Joseph Burr and Thomas Haines as sureties - It is ordered and decreed by the court that the guardianship of the person and estate of the said minor be committed to the said William Stockton and Sarah Coate, and that letters of guardianship issue accordingly" [2]

1823 On 13 September, at a special session of the Orphans Court of Burlington County at Mount Holly, Mary Coate, widow of William Coate, the younger, petitioned the court concerning entitlement to dower due her and Sarah Coate, widow of William Coate, the elder, who was father of William Coate, the younger. [3]

1824 At the August term of the Burlington County Orphans Court, Mary Coate, William Stockton, and Thomas Haines, administrators of William Coate, gave their account. [4]

1823-1832 The account for Richard Coate, minor child of William Coate was recorded by Samuel Stockton. Sarah Coate was the guardian. [5] Letters of guardianship and orphans court records have been indexed [6]
