commend my sowle to Allmightie god my Creator trustinge by his grace and throughe the deathe and passion of Jesus Christ to be an inheriter of ye kingdome of heaven, And my bodie I commend to the earthe from whence it came to be buried in the church ward of the parishe Churche of Preston aforesaid, And concerninge ye worldie lyveliehoode wch it hathe pleased god to bless me wth all and for ye Countie of Essex yeoman the full somme of Tenne poundes of lawfull money of England in or vppon ye Feast Daie of St Michell the Archanngell followinge next after the feast of Sainte Michell thearchanngell nexte ensewinge the deathe of my said wyfe yf he the said Thomas Stephens be then lyvinge and payinge vnto Edward Rauson (or Ranson?) nowe my Servant his Exec or Admin'str the somme of five poundes of like lawfull money att the feast of the Ann'tiac'on of the virgine Marye nexte after the daie appointed for the payement of the tenne pounds afovesaid bothe the paymets avouesaid to me made at the daies abouesaid, in the Northe porche of the parishe Churche of the Towne of Preston aforesaid and payinge to the Churche wardens and overseers for the poore of the saide parishe of Preston to the use of the said poore five poundes of like lawfull money of England in the said Churche porche in or vppon the feast Daie of St Michaell tharchanngell wch shalbe nexte ensewinge after twoe yeres compleate from or after ye death of my said wyfe, And my will and meaning is that the said fyve poundes shalbe kepte & contynued for a stock to and for the vse of ye said poore forever, desiringe the said Church wardens and overseers that they wilbe carefull that the somme maye be so imployed as that the poore maye from tyme to tyme receyve somme reasonable comforte from & by the same, And yf the said Edward Borne his heires exec Adm'strators or Assignes shall fayle in the paymte of the said somme of tenne poundes to my said kynseman Thomas Stevens at the daie and place above appoynted for the same or in the payment of the sommes of five pounds before menc'oned to Edward Rauson and the Churchwardens and overseers for the poore of the said paristhe of Preston in manner aforesaid, then I will that from and after suche defalte of paymte to any of them made The said Thomas Stevens my kynseman shall have and enioye to him his heires executors Admin'strators and Assynes the said ten'te and all and singuler the other premenc'oned premisses payinge to the said Edward Rauson and to the churchwardens and overseers aforesaid the said severll sommes of five pounds at the daies and place therto formerlie appointed, And payinge also vnto my said kynesman Edward Borne his exec or Adm'str at ye Churche porche aforesaid the somme of tenne poundes of lawfull money of England in ye feast Daie of St Michaell the Archanngell nexte ensewinge the daie appointed for ye paymte to be made to the Church wardens and overseers aforesaid, Item I giue towards the leaddinge of the church of Preston aforesaid Thirteene shillinges foure pence to be paid by the Executors of this my last will to the Church wardens of ye said parishe wthin one yeare nexte after my decease, And all the residue of my moveables goods whatsoever, my debtes & the Charges of my funerall decentlie to be donne discharged I gyve vnto Joane my wife whom I make name and appointe to be the onlye Executrix of this my laste will and Testamte, and thus gyvinge thankes to Almightie god for his goodnes in gevinge leave to fynishe this my will and allother his mercies I Conclude witysyinge and approveinge this to be my last will and Testamte comprehended in three sheetes of paper by settinge my marke to everie sheete of the same and by puttinge my seale to the same will being fixed together in the presence of Robte Sparrowe Robert Ryce Richard Hollydaie his marke Thomas Stephens his marke.

Mahler's abstract states, [32]

He gave his wife Joan a tenement in Preston with grounds, houses, orchards, and yards … for her life. After her decease, it was to be given to his kinsman Edward Borne of Bury St. Edmund's, he paying to Thomas Stevens of Borley, Essex, yeoman, £10, to servant Edward Ranson £5, and to the overseers of the poor of Preston £5, all within two years. If Edward Bourne failed in the payments, the land to go to his kinsman Thomas Stevens, on condition of his making the payments. Stevens gave 13s to the leading of [the roof of] Preston church. The rest of his goods were given to his wife Joan, who was named executrix. Robert Sparrowe, Robert Ryce, and Richard Hollydaie were witnesses.

1618 Thomas Stevens was buried on August 24 in Preston, Suffolk. [33]

"Elizabeth my daughter the weife of Anthony Fowler of Alpheton in the County aforesaid yoman." "Alice my daughter the weife of Thomas Sherwoode of kettle barston in the County aforesayd yoman." "Ann my daughter the weife of xrofer [i.e., Christopher] Clarke of Elmsett in the County aforesaid yoman" and "Thomas Everard the sonne of Thomazine my daughter late of Lavenham deceased." She gave "Edward Ranston my servant the some of five pounds" at the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, to the poor people of Preston 40s. to be divided by the overseers of the poor, and 10s. for leading of the [roof of the] church of Preston., all to be paid at the feast of St. Michael the Archangel. If any of the daughters died before receiving payment, her portion to was given to her children. Son-in-law Josias Longe was named executor.

1619 Jone Stevens was buried on June 23 in Preston, Suffolk. [38]

1631 Susan the wife of Josias Longe was buried on August 30 in Horningheath, Suffolk. [41] [42]
