Notes for John Nicodemus and Ann Stoner

1784 John Nicodemus was born. [1] [2]

1816 John and Ann were married [3] [4]. They settled on Clover Creek about 2 miles north of his parents homestead in a wilderness area. He farmed about 300 acres and built a sawmill.

1817 John Nicodemus was listed in Woodberry Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania (tax list). [5]

1820 John Nicodemus lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 1 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (16 thru 25). [6]

1822 Christianna "Anna" Stoner Nicodemus died on April 26, 1822 and was buried at Kensinger Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania. Christianna "Anna" Stoner Nicodemus was born on April 29, 1799. [7] [8]

1822 John Nicodemus was on the tax list for Woodberry Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.

1823 John Nichodemus warranted land on Clover Creek in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County on 4 March. Frederick Nichodemus, John Benner, and Montgomery owned adjacent land. John Hipple owned land nearby. [9] [10]

1829 On April 27, John Nichodemus, of Woodbury Twp, petitioned the Bedford County Orphans' Court that he was married with Ann Stoner, daughter of Abraham Stoner, deceased, and that Ann has also died leaving children Elizabeth and Jacob, both under age 14. John Nichodemus posted bond and was appointed guardian over the children and their estates. [11]

1830 John Nichodemus lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 5), 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (20 thru 29), 1 (40 thru 49), and 1 (70 thru 79); and females: 1 (5 thru 9), 2 (20 thru 29), and 1 (40 thru 49). [12]

1832 John built a flour mill, which later became known as Klepser's mill.

1840 John Nicodemus lived in North Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (under 5), 1 (10 thru 14), 1 (15 thru 19), 1 (20 thru 29), and 1 (50 thru 59); and females: 1 (10 thru 14), 1 (15 thru 19), and 1 (20 thru 29). [13]

1846 John Nicodemus was taxed for 206 acres, a mill and sawmill, 3 horses, 4 cows, and other acreage in North Woodberry Twp, PA. Acreage for Metzger and Stonerook were mentioned.

1850 John Nichodemus (age 64, born in Pennsylvania) lived in North Woodbury Twp, Blair County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Mary Nichodemus (age 44), Margarett Nichodemus (age 18), Charlotte Nichodemus (age 4), and Emily Smith (age 25). [14]

1857 John divided his land, built another large home and sold 153 acres with the original brick house to son Jacob S Nicodemus. Two other farms were sold to son Levi H and daughter Elizabeth Snyder.

1860 John Nicodemus (age 75, born in Pennsylvania) lived in North Woodbury Twp, Blair County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Mary Nicodemus (age 58), Charlotte Nicodemus (age 14), and Emeline Smith (age 35). [15]

1861-66 John H Nicodemus served in the Civil War. [16]

1867 John sold the mill to Fred. Klepser.

1870 John Nicodemus (age 86, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Martinsburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Mary Nicodemus (69), Charlotte Nicodemus (24), Christ Nicodemus (14), and Emmer Smith (44). John Nicodemus was a retired farmer. [17]

1871 J.H. Nicodemus was a delegate from North Woodberry at the Republican Convention in Altoona, Pennsylvania. [18]

1873 John Nicodemus died in Martinsburg on 27 July 1873, aged 88-8-19. [19] [20]

1873 John Nicodemus died on July 27, 1873 (looks like 1872 to me) aged 88?YS 8MO 19DS and was buried at Kensinger Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania. [21] [22]

1873 John Nicodemus Sr, dated his will on July 19, 1872, and it was proved in Blair County on August 2, 1873. The will named seven children: Elizabeth (married to Theophilus Snyder), Jacob S Nicodemus, Anna (married to T A Rupely?), Levi N Nicodemus, Margaret (married to Frederick Hyle), John H Nicodemus, and Charlotte (married to Samuel M Royer), and wife Mary. An unsold farm of Jacob Stoner was mentioned. Sons Jacob S and John H Nicodemus and son-in-law Frederick Hyle were named executors. [23]

1899 Mary Hay Nicodemus died on September 19, 1899 and was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania. Mary Hay Nicodemus was born 1803. [24]

1891 Daughter Elizabeth Nicodemus Snyder died. Her obituary [25] named John and Annie Nocodemus as her parents.

1930 Charlott Nicodemus Royer, daughter of John Nicodemus and Mary Hay, died at age 84, on October 7, 1930 in North Woodbury Twp, Blair County, Pennsylvania. Charlott Nicodemus Royer was born on April 3, 1846 in Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 93820). [26]
