ENVIROMENTAL EDUCATION METHODS FACULTY

The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) has supported the creation of a directory of faculty who teach "environmental education methods" courses at colleges and universities in the United States:

This directory is designed as a resource to create a network for faculty who are teaching environmental education methods and to serve as a resource for students interested in specializing in environmental education.

Note that this Directory concentrates on faculty who teach "environmental education" methods and not "environmental science" or "environmental studies" courses. Environmental studies courses tend to concentrate on providing students with an awareness of environmental problems/issues and in some cases with the knowledge and skills to help solve these problems/issues by changing their own behaviors. Environmental education (EE) methods courses concentrate on preparing future k-12 teachers, natural resources managers, environmental professionals, and others to conduct formal (in school) and non-formal (out-of or away from school) environmental education. Hence, students who have completed EE methods courses should know how to instill environmental awareness, knowledge, skills, and attitudes in different audiences. They also possess the skill and knowledge to encourage youth and adults to make informed choices and engage in environmentally responsible behaviors.
