The central importance of Cyprus in the regional flow of goods cannot be underestimated. Both oil arriving through the Suez Canal and Red Sea in addition to oil leaving the Levant is considerable. The sea routes overlap with the coastal waters of Cyprus. Notice the large amount of activity at the ports where British sovereign bases are located. (A map of these bases is also available.)
An enlarged view (2.26 mb) of the map, including the key will help bring the region into detail.
