Can you roughly estimate the size of a highly-porous track in apatite using the distance relation between the diffraction spots from the {1000} spacings (0.81 nm) and the Airy pattern from the track along the [0001] direction?

Introduction

I am a Research Fellow at the University of Michigan. My research is focused in Radiation Effects (particularly Fission Tracks), Nuclear Materials and Nanomaterials. I am working with Prof. Rodney C Ewing in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan.

RESEARCH AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE      

Research Fellow, in Materials with expertise in radiation effects (e.g. radiation induced amorphization, and swift ion tracks, particularly fission tracks), nuclear materials (apatite, zircon and perovskite), nanomaterials (e.g. carbon nanotubes and Au/TiO2), sample preparation (e.g. mircotome cutting and FIB), and materials characterization (e.g. AFM, SEM, XRD, Raman and TEM, particularly in situ TEM annealing). News

The entire lengths and thermal annealing of latent fission tracks in apatite have been observed for the first time through a novel microtome cutting method. This work will appear in EPSL soon (2012)

Ontrack Thermochronology News (April 2011)

Bart Hendriks of Geological Survey of Norway wrote an article, "New insights into the formation and annealing behavior of latent fission tracks", to introduce our study to the track dating community.
