With the key in the on position, or with the engine running, I can not get the shift lever to move out of park. I have leaned against it pretty hard, but I fear that if I just muscle it, I'll snap the linkage. I gently rocked the car back and forth a little, hoping to shake loose any corrosion or rust, but with the car in park, she don't move too good.

Shot of the driver's side of the assembly.
Closeup of the thumb button path. When thumb is
depressed, the little gold circular bar moves down, and seems to
trace the path that it should. Still can't get it to move far enough
to go back up around the first groove (between park and reverse)
Front of assembly. Seems to move (albeit only a
little) when I push in the thumb button and rock the shifter.
