The Veltman Software Collection

This site contains an open distribution of a collection of software written by Martinus J. G. Veltman. The software is divided into two main categories:

  1. Schoonschip: The algebraic manipulation program originally developed in 1963 for the IBM 7090 and subsequently ported to the CDC 6600, IBM 360 and M680x0 systems.
  2. Vsys: A software development system and scientific application programs for the M680x0 microprocessor.

Prof. Veltman passed away in Bilthoven in the Netherlands on January 4, 2021. Obituaries can be found at Nikhef, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and on his University of Michigan web page .

Prof. Veltman authorized the open release of the source code of M680x0 Schoonschip on April 2, 2009. The Veltman family and Hugo Strubbe authorized the release of the source code of CDC 6600 and IBM 360 Schoonschip on March 2, 2024.

Prof. Veltman authorized the open release of the binary and source code of the Vsys collection on August 27, 2014, and of the documentation on January 1, 2015.
