Even if he occasionally stroked Kaoru's behind...although when he did, he of course got knocked on the head.

  1. surisuri = the sound effect of two things rubbing lightly together
  2. gon = sound effect of a fist hitting something
  3. genkotsu = a punch on the top of the head
  4. kurau = lit. from kanji meaning "to eat"--means to receive an attack
"Doushite, chichi datte sawatteru nonii?"
"Why?--Dad gets to touch."

  1. datte = too/also
    I usually use the suffix -self to translate this one, because it reinforces the specific person to whom the "also" is applied. In this particular case, neither version fits well with the sentence. A more literal translation would be "Dad himself also touches..."
  2. noni = even though
    This points out that there's a contradiction--in this case, even though Kouhei's father can do it, Kouhei gets punished for it.
"Chichi wa ne hentai na n'da yo.
"Your dad is a pervert.

Ii ko no Kouhei wa sonna koto shicha dame na no."
Kouhei, you're a good boy, you mustn't do such a thing."

  1. shicha = contraction of shite wa
  2. Japanese uses "you" much less frequently than English. The translation of ii ko no Kouhei would be more like "Kouhei the good boy," which sounds strange in English.
Ii ko dakara Kaoru no iu koto o kiite, ii ko dakara o-shiri o sawaru no wa yameta.
Because he was a good boy, he obeyed Kaoru, and because he was a good boy, he stopped touching Kaoru's behind.

  1. iu koto o kiku = to do what someone asks
    This is often used in bargaining, when one person says, "If I do this for you, in return will you do me one favor--anything I ask?" It took me forever to figure out that it wasn't just the listening to the request--which is the literal meaning--it was the doing that was important.
Baka da ne chichi wa, hentai shiteru to Kaoru ni kirawareru no shiranai n'da, kusukusu...'tte yoyuu koiteta noni,
//Dad's an idiot, he doesn't know that if he acts like a pervert Kaoru will hate him...// he snickered, feeling at an advantage,

  1. to = if/when
  2. kusukusu = the sound of snickering/giggling
  3. yoyuu = the extra leeway one has when in an advantageous position
demo, Kaoru wa hentai no chichi ni sawarareru no ga suki datta.
but Kaoru liked being touched by his [Kouhei's] perverted father.

Chichi no koibito. Dousei aite.
His father's lover. The person he's living with.

Soshite, Kouhei no hahaoya-gawari.
And, the one who took the place of Kouhei's mother.

Note: I've been using "he" in reference to Kaoru all this time, because in English it's awkward otherwise, but the Japanese hasn't used any gender-specific pronouns yet.
17 mo toshiue dakedo, imada ni deatta toki to kawarazu kirei na Kaoru no mawari de, toki wa tomatte iru.
He's 17 years older than Kouhei, but around Kaoru, who is still as beautiful as when they met, time is stopped.

  1. kawarazu = unchanged
Maru de Kouhei ga oitsuku no o matte kureteru you da to, sakkaku sae shite shimau.
Kouhei even suffered the illusion that it was just as if Kaoru was waiting for him to catch up.

  1. maru de...you da = to seem just as if
Itsu ka, itsu ka, kitto oitsukeru hazu.
Someday, someday, he could surely catch up.

Sou omotte ita noni, shinjite ita noni, demo, ippai ni nobashita te ga todoku koto wa nai.
Though he had thought that, though he had believed it, his fully outstretched hand would never reach.

Kaoru wa, sekaijuu de yuiitsu, chichi no tame ni youi sareta hito dakara.
Because Kaoru was the one person in all the world meant for his father.

"Ouchaku sezu ni, jibun no aite wa jibun de sagase."
"Don't be lazy, search for your own partner yourself."

Yoyuu tappuri no chichi no koe.
His father's voice, full of confidence.
