  • Abstract
  • The purpose of this project is to study the merging process of two particles, one of the cases is coarsening process. We built a 2D concurrent finite element model to analysis the particle growth driven by interface migration and diffusion. Algorithms were developed successfully to deal with case judgment and element rearrangement in the merging process. The results show that particle grows larger with negative chemical potential competing with surface energy, and two neighboring particles merge and continue to grow.
