Chinese 202
Listening exercise 3
(due FRIDAY, March 28, 1997)

This exercise involves listening to a 5-minute Chinese news broadcast and answering questions about it. It is best to do this exercise in the Language Resource Center (2nd floor MLB), where you can hear the audio with headphones, and without disturbing others. (Don't try this at home! The audio file is too big to be conveniently downloaded over an ordinary phone line; but on campus, where there are EtherNet connections, it downloads in less than a minute.)

If all goes well, your browser will be properly configured so that when you click on the link below, it will open a helper application and play the audio file for you. (If all doesn't go well, click here...) In the Language Resource Center, "SoundMachine" should be available and should open up; to control playback and see where you are in the broadcast, pull down the "Windows" menu and choose "Player Window"; a small window should appear on the screen with control buttons and a time counter. (For amusement, try playing fast-forward, reverse, etc.)

Print out this page first, so that you have the questions in front of you; then play the audio file as many times as you like. Write your answers in the blank spaces, put your name at the top, and turn the sheet(s) in on Monday.
