1: 14 a Dixit autem Deus: And God said,

b Fiant luminaria in firmamento caeli, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens

c et dividant diem ac noctem, to separate the day from the night;

d et sint in signa et tempora, et dies et annos; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years,

15 a ut luceant in firmamento caeli, and let them be lights in the firmament of the heavens

b et inluminent terram. to give light upon the earth."

c Et factum est ita. And it was so.

16 a Fecitque Deus duo luminaria magna: And God made the two great lights,

b luminare maius, ut praeesset diei: the greater light to rule the day,

c et luminare minus, ut praeesset nocti: and the lesser light to rule the night;

d et stellas. he made the stars also.

17 a Et posuit eas in firmamento caeli, And God set them in the firmament of the heavens

b ut lucerent super terram to give light upon the earth,

18 a et praeessent diei ac nocti, to rule over the day and over the night,

b et dividerent lucem ac tenebras. and to separate the light from the darkness.

c Et vidit Deus quod esset bonum. And God saw that it was good.

Et factum est vespere et mane, dies quartus. And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
