In principio creavit Deus caelum et terram. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 a Terra autem erat inanis et vacua, The earth was without form and void,


b et tenebrae erant super faciem abyssi, and darkness was upon the face of the deep;


c et Spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas. and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.

3 a Dixitque Deus: Fiat lux. And God said, "Let there be light";


b Et facta est lux. and there was light.

4 a Et vidit Deus lucem quod esset bona: And God saw that the light was good;


b et divisit lucem ac tenebras. and God separated the light from the darkness.

5 a Appellavitque lucem Diem, et tenebras Noctem: God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
