Computer flashcards

These are HyperCard stacks designed to help you master core vocabulary in the lessons for Chinese 201; they can also help you learn pinyin, traditional characters, or simplified characters. The stacks should run on any Macintosh which has the current HyperCard Player. (No special software for Chinese characters is required; the character images are stored as pictures.) No DOS or Windows version yet--sorry!

  Listen to the VOA's Chinese-language broadcasts with RealAudio (telephone-line quality), or download (large) audio files for listening off-line (FM-radio quality).
• Voice of America Chinese Radio Scripts
  Text files of VOA radio scripts, in simplified characters--GB (Guo2jia1 Biao1zhun3 'national standard') code. Your computer needs to be able to display Chinese characters with GB code; or use the Macintoshes at our Language Resource Center.
• The "Profound Mystery" project (Ao4mi4 Gong1cheng2): a project to provide informative Chinese-language reading materials on the Web, for Chinese children. The language is somewhat easier than in materials written for adults. A graphic version is available (in simplified characters) for those without Chinese-language software.
