2011 Construction Research Symposium

 

The 2011 Construction Research Symposium was held in October 2011 by the Tishman Construction Management Program (TCMP). The symposium was attended by 12 construction companies and about 25 TCMP graduate students.

2011 Winter Simulation Conference, Phoenix, AZ

 

The 2011 IEEE Winter Simulation Conference was held in Phoenix, AZ in December 2011.

 

 

Vineet Kamat receives Frank and Brooke Transue Faculty Scholar Award

 

Prof. Kamat was selected by the UM College of Engineering to receive the Frank and Brooke Transue CEE Faculty Scholar Award. Mr. Frank Transue visited UM during  the 2011 Michigan Engineering Homecoming Weekend.

 

 

2011 UROP Symposium

 

Swetha Viswanatha presented a poster titled "High Level Architecture (HLA) for Distributed Construction Simulation" at the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) symposium held in March, 2011.

 

 

 

Visit to New Carquinez Bridge, California

 

UM faculty and JV partners associated with the NIST TIP project visited the New Carquinez Bridge near San Francisco, CA in February, 2011 as part of the project's annual meeting. The technical tour organized by CalTrans included a trip up one of the bridge's piers (the highest point on the pier seen above Prof. Tim Gordon's left shoulder in the picture below).

 

 

 

2011 NSF CMMI Grantees Conference, Atlanta

 

Several UM-CEE faculty attended the 2011 NSF CMMI Grantees Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. As part of the conference, a technical tour was organized to Delta TechOps, Delta Airlines' aircraft repair and maintenance facility adjacent to Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Our group presented 3 posters at the conference on various ongoing visualization projects, which were very popular among the large number of school students who visited the poster sessions.

 

 

 

 

2010 International Conference on Sustainable Urbanization, Hong Kong

 

Excavation for a new underground roadway on in full swing at Hong Kong island along Victoria Harbor. The ICSU conference was held in December 2010. The first results of our group's research on using Augmented Reality for urban excavation safety were presented at the conference. 2010 ASCE Construction Research Congress in Banff, Canada

 

The 2010 ASCE Construction Research Congress was held in Banff, Canada in May 2010. In addition to attending conference sessions and activities, some of us also found time to get together and drive to Lake Louise.

 

 

 

Vineet Kamat receives 2009 FIATECH CETI Award

 

Associate Professor Vineet Kamat was the recipient of the 2009 FIATECH Outstanding Early Career Researcher award. He received the award for his work on Visualization of Engineering Graphics in Augmented Reality for Integrated and Automated Project Processes. FIATECH recognized and honored nine organizations and individuals for their extraordinary work in developing and deploying innovative engineering and construction technologies at the annual CETI Award Gala in Austin, TX in March 2010.

 

 

 

UM CEE Faculty attend 2009 NSF CMMI Grantees Conference

 

UM-CEE faculty and students attended the 2009 NSF CMMI Grantees Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, organized by the US National Science Foundation (NSF). In addition to attending conference sessions and activities, some of them also found time to get together and hike up Diamond Head. According to locals, early seafaring visitors saw the hill glinting in the sun, as if studded with numerous diamonds. Eager explorers were disappointed to find that the scintillations were caused by reflections off a worthless mineral, nevertheless the name stuck.

 

 

 

 

Amir Behzadan receives FIATECH Outstanding Student Researcher Award

Amir Behzadan (Ph.D., August, 2008) received the FIATECH CETI Outstanding Student Researcher Award for 2008 in recognition of his work on, “ARVISCOPE: Geo-referenced Visualization of Dynamic Construction Processes in 3D Outdoor Augmented Reality.”

 

 

The award was presented in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2009. Amir Behzadan is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida.

 

FIATECH is an industry consortium of leading capital project industry owners, engineering construction contractors and technology suppliers. FIATECH established the CETI Award - Celebration of Engineering & Technology Innovation - in 2006 to promote and showcase innovative construction-related technologies that benefit the capital projects industry.
