Wind powered pump for under developed countries

Inadequate access to fresh water leads to millions of deaths every year in developing countries. Ground water is a natural source of pure water but is often under utilized. We have developed a system to enhance the use of these natural reservoirs by replacing the manual effort commonly associated with lifting water with an abundant renewable energy source - wind. Using an S-shaped vertical shaft wind mill to drive a rope pump, it lifts water from a well and fills a tank to supply fresh water to a small community. Our system is designed to be maintained and built with locally available manufacturing capabilities, materials, skills and recycled parts making it an economically viable option for many of these communities just on the brink of embracing modern technology. It is our hope that it will do more than quench thirst - it will stimulate an interest in technology and enhance health and economic well being in the hope for a sustainable future. .
