Paper Grading Paradigm
I. Argument
Present?
Narrow enough?
Presented well?
Fully developed in the course of the paper?
Do the points presented augment the position of the thesis?
Is the logic clearly drawn?
Are there extraneous paragraphs/information?
Are multiple points of view presented in an objective manner?
Does the tone of the paper invite the reader to follow the argument without demanding adherence to one point of view?
Are Mode A and C views both accepted?
Are counter arguments made without breaking the flow of the paper?
Are counter arguments mitigated or simply thrust forward?
II. Structure/Style
Does each paragraph present a single idea and develop it fully?
Are the paragraphs in a logical sequence? (See I.2. above)
Are words used correctly?
Were transitions and contrasts adequately employed?
Is there an appropriate mixture of sentence types?
Is the tone appropriately academic (no contractions, no sarcasm, etc.)
III. Technical details
Footnotes and/or bibliography done correctly?
Citations appropriate?
Quotes employed appropriately?
Pages numbered? Title?
Spelling and grammar correct?
Font size and use appropriate?
