Art/History Museums

We finally decided that this section was growing too big and too important to leave as a subsection of Other Travels. As Lydia grows and is receptive to more culture, we plan to get to more of these “hands off” places. Check them out! (Places visited more than once are highlighted in Red.)

Image/Link Name Location Notes
UM Museum of Art University of Michigan Museum of Art Ann Arbor, MI Lydia has been here twice, both times as part of field trips from school; once in 1st grade, and once in 2nd.
Henry Ford Museum Henry Ford Museum Dearborn, MI
Greenfield Village Greenfield Village Dearborn, MI
Detroit Historical Society Detroit Historical Society Museum Detroit, MI
Detroit Institute of Arts Detroit Institute of Arts Detroit, MI
Sloan Museum Sloan Museum Flint, MI
Curwood Castle Oliver Curwood Castle Owosso, MI Lydia and Daddy.

This is one of those places that’s worth visiting... once. When you’re inside, you realize that it’s merely a big house, made to the order of an eccentric old bachelor. The basement (no, not a dungeon) is a museum in honor of Owosso resident Thomas E. Dewey, who was president until the second edition came out.
Plymouth Historical Museum Plymouth Historical Museum Plymouth, MI
Old Rugged Cross Museum Old Rugged Cross Museum Reed City, MI We have gone to this because of its proximity to SpringHill Camp in Evart. It houses many of the personal effects of Rev. George Bennard, who penned the famous hymn “The Old Rugged Cross.” There are also many other artifacts of local history.
Rentschler Farm Museum Rentschler Farm Museum Saline, MI
Saline Depot Museum Saline Depot Museum Saline, MI
Yankee Air Museum Yankee Air Museum Willow Run, MI
Michigan Firehouse Museum Michigan Firehouse Museum Ypsilanti, MI
Conner Prairie Conner Prairie Fishers, IN
The Lincoln Museum The Lincoln Museum Fort Wayne, IN
Hopewell Hopewell Culture National Historical Park Chillicothe, OH
Popcorn Museum Wyandot Popcorn Museum Marion, OH This was two museums in one, as the upstairs had the big room full of antique popcorn wagons and the like, while downstairs had displays of local historical interest, particularly pertaining to favorite (?) son Warren Harding.

For a list of the additional art/historical museums that Mommy and Daddy have visited, see the Mommy/Daddy Travels page.

Total count: 17, in 3 states, with 4 returns.
