Democratic Senate Majority Leader Hits Pay Dirt
In a statement to Wisconsin Republicans, Dick Cheney accused Democrats of advancing a "strategy of resignation and defeatism in the face of determined enemies."
"As we make our case to the voters in this election season, it's vital to keep issues of national security at the top of the agenda."
Sen. Harry Reid (D) Nev. said:
"When the U.S. intelligence community confirmed that America is losing the war on terror because of Bush failures in Iraq, this White House lost all credibility on matters of national security. With Iraq in a civil war, Afghanistan moving backwards and our own borders unsecured, it's clear George Bush and Dick Cheney are desperate to hide their record and distort the truth."
Bingo. Iraq is producing more terrorists than Bush's "Fight'm There So We Don't Have to Fight'm Here" strategy can handle. Forget the arguments about cut and run, about being weenies too wimpy to fight. The point is that the fighting in Iraq is counter-productive (as if we didn't know that already.) Smart soldiers know when to stop fighting. Their civilian superiors could learn a thing or two.

I can't wait to get my hands on Bob Woodward's new book. Aptly titled "State of Denial," it has the White House completely steamed and back to the name-calling and attacking they do so well. I'm pleased, because I was beginning to think Woodward was going to end up being an apologist for Bush.
The latest I read was an interview in which Woodward said, to paraphrase, that Bush is an idealist, which put him -- morally speaking -- slightly ahead of Nixon. Idealists, however, are easily manipulated.
Condoleeze Rice has already been put in the position of having to confirm something Woodward says in his book, even though she has tried to say she doesn't remember. This is just going to get more and more interesting.
