Conservative Norm Ornstein on the Nuclear Option
You and I know that the idea of ending the filibuster to return to some golden age when all of the president's judicial nominees were voted on in the Senate is pure hogwash. But the ever-quoted Norm Ornstein really lays it all out. The article appeared in Roll Call, but the nice folks over at the DCCC put it on their blog.

This exemplifies the difference between conservatives and liberals who are principled in their beliefs vs. conservatives and liberals who are merely moralist. We who are principled in our beliefs are far more similar to one another than the moralists on each side are to each other.
In particular, moralists like Frist and Bush would, if permitted, tear the entire country apart if their ideology called for it (some might say they already have or are doing so), whereas those with principles appear to understand the importance of civility and comity, particularly in a body such as the Senate.
Though the preservation of our representative democracy should remain at the forefront of the consciousness of all our representatives, it seems like there are only about six Republican Senators who can accurately make this claim. How pathetic! The intellectual dishonesty and sleaze behind the "they deserve and up or down vote" argument makes me feel like I need a shower.
