|gil-ēz| or |gil-is|?

The ‘A’, ‘n’, and ‘h’ in Anthony are all silent. (So is the ‘7’, but that is also invisible.) And Anthony is often spelled Thony. The ‘e’ in Gillies is also silent — someone once told me it’s a Scottish thing — but that never affects the spelling.
