Tutuisan, Knitting Thoughts

Tatiana Calixto

2011

I’m helping Mama… or whoever’s this tutu is. It doesn’t matter. We help make each other’s tutus.  All girls and women.

But I’m making my own tutu too. Mama started it, in a circle.

Girls make no designs in their tutus yet.

When I am 12 or so, I’ll have my own ceremony.  Mama will look after me during five days. All the while, I will be making a tutu using nine colors.  And I will make my first design too.

The mamo will bless her tutu.

She will then become a woman.
