The rainbow comes out almost every day in Chinchero, “The Land of the Rainbow.” Here, Antonia is weaving a section for a larger collective piece that will represent the village in a gathering of weavers from around Cusco.
We asked a young weaver, "what if you don't feel like weaving the part that was assigned to you, or you are not very enthusiastic about it? Can you negotiate and weave some other section instead?" Although perplexed by our question, she still responded calmly: “¿Qué quieres decir? We won’t pause to see if we want it, or like it or not. It’s our duty, and we'll do our part with cariño, with love."
