Dr. Chaim Weizmann

Chaim Weizmann was a chemist, Zionist leader, and first president of the State of Israel. Born in Pinsk in 1874, Weizmann studied and taught chemistry throughout Europe. Involved with world Zionist organizations, he met with many world leaders to bring about the Balfour declaration. He came to Palestine in 1918, and later established the important educational institutions Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Weizmann Insititute before his death in 1952.
