The top vote-getter (of the 20 people who submitted a ballot) in each category below is highlighted in boldface type. The number of votes cast appears in parentheses before each nominee.
The eventual winner in each category is highlighted in reddish color.
Hence, if it's bold and red, we collectively picked the right winner!
(Long story short, we picked 13 out of 18 correct winners in the categories that I chose to include, which is a better percentage than last year).

Who will be the WORST-dressed female?(7) Helena Bonham Carter Lady Gaga (doesn't matter if she's there or at home) Hailee Steinfeld Jennifer Lopez Sarah Jessica Parker Miley Cyrus Natalie Portman Nicole Kidman
Betsy's thoughts on worst-dressed female:Worst: Nicole Kidman (Just because the letters to spell "KIMONO" appear in your name doesn't mean that you should wear one on Oscar night). Runner-up #1: Cate Blanchett (Is that a PICTURE FRAME there in the middle? Without the yellow bits on top it wouldn't have been quite so bad). Runner-up #2: Mark Ruffalo's wife (Hello, Phantom of the Opera!) Runner-up #3: Jennifer Hudson (Sorry, people - I thought she was gorgeous when she was bigger. Lot of saggin' going on). Who will be the BEST-dressed female?Annete Bening (2) Amy Adams (2) Nicole Kidman (2) Natalie Portman Gwyneth Paltrow Cameron Diaz Catherine Zeta-Jones Anne Hathaway Halle Berry Michelle Williams
Betsy's thoughts on best-dressed female:Best: Reese Witherspoon (Utterly exquisite! So chic and retro. And the hair! Oh, the glorious hair!) Runner-up #1: Natalie Portman (The purple swan) Runner-up #2: Amy Adams (....except for the choice to pair emerald green jewelry with a sapphire blue dress) Runner-up #3: Penelope Cruz (Baby boobies! She's a firecracka!) Runner-up #4: Helen Mirren (Says Derek, "How can you be 65 and still be that sexy?") Runner-up #5: Michelle Williams (I absolutely adore the pixie/Mia Farrow haircut on her!) Runner-up #6: Jennifer Lawrence (Great way to become a movie star, you simple, beautiful girl). Runner-up #7: Annette Bening Here's a slide show of red carpet photos: http://www.moviefone.com/oscars-academy-awards/photos/red-carpet What did you think? Email me and I'll post it here. |
Who will be the WORST-dressed male?(1) Johnny Depp (5) Jeff Bridges The Coen Brothers (2) Tim Burton Ryan Reynolds Betsy's thoughts on worst-dressed male:Most tuxes look generally the same to me, but I have to tell ya - aside from the grooming, Jeff Bridges looked pretty good. And his whole family looked lovely! Russell Brand - I wasn't feelin' it. Christian Bale - I didn't like the black-on-black. Robert Downey, Jr. - I adore him, but ditto (white on white).

Who will be the BEST-dressed male?George Clooney Tom Hanks as Woody (3) James Franco Robert Downey Jr. (3) Colin Firth Betsy's thoughts on best-dressed male:#1 Colin Firth did not disappoint. Very debonair, kinglike. #2 Nor did James Franco (Well, his clothes didn't disappoint). #3 Justin Timberlake, delish. He could wear a trash bag and he'd still be smokin' hot. And I love when he brings his mom. Side note: in general, all of the boys from The Social Network cleaned up nice. #4 Mark Ruffalo was also a standout. Were my corneas not seared by the sight of the wretchedly dressed woman on his arm, he might just be my #1 choice. #5 Javier Bardem looked sleepy (new baby at home), but dashing. #6 Warren Beatty, also dashing for a septuagenarian.

James Franco as host: will he FLOURISH or FLOUNDER?
Flourish
- he was made for this! Result:This is still a matter of opinion, but my opinion is that James Franco tanked. What did you think? Email me and I'll post it here. |
Anne Hathaway as host: will she FLOURISH or FLOUNDER?
Flourish
- she was made for this! Result:This is still a matter of opinion, but my opinion is that Anne Hathaway rocked the house. What did you think? Email me and I'll post it here. |
Other Comments on this year's films and/or actors for the enjoyment of fellow movie junkies:I have seen only two of these films, so my choices are for your entertainment only! - Chele Ick...I hope Anne Hathaway doesn't sing and dance. - Lisa R. Loved the scene in "True Grit" when Rooster is riding the poor horse to death to save the "snake-bit" girl. Cinematography was awesome. It made me feel what each character was feeling, even the horse! - Sandy B. "Black Swan" = American Psycho + ballet + a pinch of lesbian sex to try to draw the guys in. FAIL. - Holly (Betz concurs) "The King's Speech" was one of the best movies I have ever seen! - Kate Y. This is a year of overlooked: No Christopher Nolan, no Julianne Moore? For Best Makeup - no 'Alice in Wonderland'??? - Rachel Still shocked that Nolan wasn't nominated for best director even though Inception is a best picture nominee. Same for not having Inception in the editing category when that's a huge part of the movie. - Laura S.
