Welcome to the page of my website dedicated to 2008 garden pictures. On this page, you'll find pictures of 2008 flowers and wildlife in reverse chronological order. Scroll all the way to the bottom to go to the garden archives, with photos from previous years and my gardening philosophy. Early autumn visitors A whole table of "H" plants :-)

Somewheeeeeeere, Oooooooover the Rainbow...
Mid-August through September 1
Color harmony: throughout the year
Stages of growth/maturity: throughout the year I like to take photos that show a flower in full bloom, with a bud next to it and (if I'm lucky) another bud that is on its way to being open. It is rare to capture more than two stages in one photo. August 6

May 29 and June 1: Columbine (two varieties)

May 25-30: Iris
May 12 through 26: Brodiaea Ixioides, Allium, etc. A. bulgaricum is Zone 6; I have planted dozens over the last few years--and give them tons of TLC, but each year I only get a few to bloom. 2008 was the best year yet, with 7 blooms. Brodiaea Ixioides "Starlight" was a new purchase in 2007 (also Zone 6, although I didn't notice it when I placed the order). Having not seen any sprouts in the spring, I was convinced it wasn't going to make an appearance, but it started to bloom in early May, even though it was only about 4 inches tall (catalog says 16"). It eventually grew to almost a foot, and is in peak bloom as of May 26, but for a minute I thought it was money down the drain. I really like it - the color is unique. Almost maize. I planted the "Eye of the Tiger" iris in 2006, but they did not bloom in their first year. Now I regret planting them where I did. The dryer vent blows hot air onto them, so they only started blooming yesterday but are all wind-whipped and wilted because of the dryer!
May 7: Miscellany Ceylon is a lovely daffodil. They lasted about three weeks and all pointed in the same direction, making quite a show. A visitor commented, "are those real?"
May 3-7: Emperor Tulip "Juan" Top contender for Betz's coveted "Rookie of the Year" award! Hence, the THIRTEEN photographs of it.
May 3-7: Giant Darwin Hybrid Tulip "Silverstream"
May 3-7: Other Tulips
April 27: Bleeding Heart Last year, I only took one or two mediocre photos of the bleeding heart, which is a fairly new addition to the garden (2006, I think). I regretted it all year. Can you say "overcompensate"?
April 26: Miscellany
April 25: Bleeding Heart
April 20: Hyacinth, Narcissus, Fritillaria
April 12: Crocus, Hyacinth
